Vibes that my mom can recover! Been in pain far too long.

They finally figured out that one of the medications she was on has caused her liver to be completely irritated and out of control. It is not known at this point in time if there is any permanent damage.

As soon as they found out, they stopped all her meds. As with any medication, there are always side effects, but with my mom it is always severe. She is highly allergic to many medications. Her immune system is also very sensitive.

Her legs are still swollen and hurt so much, but she can't take anything because it will just irritate the liver even more. What they have given her to try, does not work.

At this point, her biliruben is shot through the roof, her liver enzymes are shot, and her clotting factors are not clotting. She is completely yellow!

There is a little ray of sunshine. Her clotting factors are finally coming down. That has to come down before everything else can. Can I please get some vibes that they will go down and that she will get better?

It is so hard to go home and see her in bed, hardly being able to get up and walk. She is at home indefinately. I hope she will get better. There are times I don't know if she will. She can't go on like this.

If she doesn't get better soon, I fear the worst is yet to come. Her spirit is broken and she has no energy. She is fighting to survive.

We had plans to go to Germany in April to visit family and travel and now I regret not doing that while we could first (instead of being selfish and saving for a house) because I'm afraid that now I may never get that chance.

You can't think that you were selfish for saving for a house. You can never predict what life is going to throw at you.

Big hugs

The liver specialist called back and they are going to take more x-rays and run more tests.

They want to rule out liver disease due to either medication or history. If it is liver disease, they can't do dialysis for the liver and a transplant could take forever.

Right now, I really don't have much hope left. I'm already afraid she is going to die with no one home.

I will send vibes her way! I hope that she gets stronger daily!

I've already been crying at work all day long. If I could trade places with her I would. Thanks for all the support.

She has to have some more test done before they find out if it is liver disease or not.

I just got home from the primary and caucus and she wanted the pastor's number from her church. I asked her why and she said that just in case because you never know what will happen.

I think she thinks she is going to not make it and it just puts me into a deeper depression.

The liver specialist called and they want to run more blood work tomorrow.

They also want to run a scope through the back of her neck to get a look at her liver. Has anyone experienced having a scope? What are the risks? Do they put you under?

My mom is already worried that something could go wrong. She is very weak and in enough pain. She doesn't want more pain!! They said it would be painful.

Her appointment is next weds. Please send some vibes it is NOT liver diease and just a horrible reaction to meds.

I bought her a little bear at the gift shop at work and got her to smile a little. So I think that cheered her up a bit. It is now tucked in with her in bed.

It sounds like they want to do a liver biopsy via a vein in her neck. Read this site. http://www.upmc.com/HealthManagement...hunkiid=102810

I had a conventional liver biopsy, I have primary biliary cirrhosis, an autoimmune disease.

They may be choosing to do the biopsy through the vein because of your Moms current condition.

When I had my biopsy I was awake and they gave me lidocaine to numb the surface of the skin and the membrane around the liver where all the nerves are. Then they took a punch like thing and stabbed it between my ribs into my liver to take out pieces. Gross yes, but really didn't hurt as bad as I expected. Lots of pressure and I have a very narrow rib cage so getting between the bones was a bit difficult. But in all honesty it really didn't hurt. The lidocaine hurt the most.

Additionally, with this method they used ultrasound to visualize the liver and the blood flow and veins so they didn't accidentally get punched, which could cause severe bleeding. When they visualized where they wanted to sample I had to instantly stop breathing, no inhale or exhale, just stop. This is because if you inhale or exhale while they are taking the sample it can tear the liver.

Since your Mom's clotting factors are so bad I would think a traditional biopsy would be too risky for her because of the bleeding risks.

Still sending lots of vibes that the problem is medication related.

I just caught up with this -- oh, I'm sorry your mom is hurting so much. And you know I understand how hard it is for you, too, to see her go through this. I don't know what to say, except that I'm sending up good thoughts for you and your mom. Please pm me if you want to talk, hon.
