Thanks so much, everyone, for your kind responses. Isn't he a hug-a-bear?

Here are a few more pictures of my dreamboat. I'm told he's a Lilac Point Siamese.

the foster mom notes say, "All he really wants is to be hugged, and he's really good at it."

I can't wait to feel his first hug. And all the thousands that will follow.

He's gorgeous. Let me know how the training to be a therapy cat works out -- I've thought about doing that with Oliver.

Thank you. I'll be sure to let you know. We do it through the Delta Society, and they require that you have the pet for 6 months before he can be evaluated (so you can be sure you know its temperament and quirks). Then he'll go through the actual certification test. That will likely bring us to about September before he's "official" and certified, but we'll take him on field trips before then to local nursing homes to be sure he likes it. The cat has to enjoy it, too.

We currently visit people in hospice and a group home with one of our dogs (soon a second dog will be certified) and it would be so nice to be able to give them the option of dog or cat when we go. And Dr. D looks like he just melts into your arms.

I really can't wait to meet him.

Natalie...we are so sad. More for us than for him. We learned this week that he is already promised to someone. The adoption isn't complete yet, and there is a slim chance we may still get him, but if the current family works out, they will be getting him. They got to him first and it is felt to be a good match for him.

I am so sad for me, as I fell in love with him, but I am happy for him, because it does sound like he is on his way to a loving home. We just wish it was ours. *sigh*

We're still submitting the rest of our paperwork in case the other family falls through, and then we'll at least be on file so if another "Mr. Right" comes along, we can jump right into the adoption without the paperwork bogging us down again.

He sure looks like a wonderful boy. Hope his new home takes full advantage of his sweet hugs. He is certainly McDreamy.

Thanks for asking.

oh i'm so sorry that it worked out that way. i know how quickly we become attached to animals even before we bring them home.

i'm sure you're right and he is going to a wonderful home but fingers crossed that he may still become part of your family.

but if not i'm sure 'mr right' is waiting out there for you, milo and the family.

What about if you explain that you were hoping to have him be a "therapy" kitty for sick and dying people? He has such a loving personality that he would be wonderful at that and would get all the hugs he wanted.

Try tugging at some heart strings. He could make one family happy, or hundreds of other people. Who could resist that

Thanks so much for the reply. Actually, I did before I realized he had been pledged already. This is the reply I got, which I respect (when reading, just note that i never asked her to hold the cat for me, that would have been an unfair request):

"We do not hold cats for anyone until they are approved, they are first in line, and it’s a solid personality match. Because these are Siamese AND rescue cats, they come with all sorts of things (medical/emotional/behavioral) and so our job is to spend time getting to know people via the application process, getting to know the cats through our foster and intake process, and then working as a team to make sure we get good matches between the two."

So it sounds like he is going to a home that is a good match for him. But he was so unusually huggable, that I'll have to keep looking before i find another one quite as calm and special as him. When the time is right, we'll know.

P.S. It doesn't help that he was so unusually handsome, too, lol.

Oh, I am soo sorry that you won't be getting McDreamy. He is sooooo handsome. I hope that his new family treats him with the love and kindness that he deserves.
