Hello all,

I post under the user name Blackberry. I'm a twenty-something woman from Canada who just got her first cat a few weeks ago. She is a three-year-old gray tabby named Princess. Here is a link to some photos of her, in case anyone wants to see:

I decided to join this board because its members are comprised of friendly-sounding people who love cats. This being my first experience owning a cat, I definitely look forward to hearing from other peoples' experiences with felines. I've got a fair bit to learn, and thought it might be fun to do so interacting with the people here.

I look forward to hearing from you all as well!

Sincerely,
Blackberry

She IS pretty!

Did you get her from a shelter, or what?

THIS HOUSE IS FOR MAINTAINED ENTIRELY FOR THE CONVENIENCE AND ENTERTAINMENT OF THE CATS.

A HOUSE WITHOUT A CAT IS NOT A HOME...JUST FOUR WALLS, AND UNSCRATCHED FURNITURE.

Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone. And I also appreciate the compliments about Princess.

Someone here asked if I got her from a shelter. The answer to that question is yes and no. Yes, she is from my local humane society, but no, I did not pick her up from there. My local animal shelter is overflowing to the brink with cats (they currently have about 500 or so).
So what they have done is house some of their animals at "satellite locations"- usually pet supply stores. This is where I found Princess.
I still filled out paperwork that the humane society needed to approve the adoption, even though I didn't pick her up from its main location.

Oh she is a pretty kitty
My first cat was a blue tabby/white (grey/white). He was a very special cat. Was a stray and about 2-3 yrs old. He got me started in showing cats

Your Princess is beautiful!!! And, I personally thank you for adopting a slightly older cat. I got my first cat in July of 06 and we guessed she was about 3 1/2 to 4 years old (a few months later I adopted a friend for her, a 3 1/2 year old male - or so we think!). They were passed over a few times due to their 'age'. Yes, kittens are absolutely endearing, but opening your home to an older cat is just so rewarding. And, maybe a little less nerve-frazzling as well.

I can just warn you now - just give in to the idea that your baby will get the best food in the house, the best medical care, and certainly the best toys and every other thing you can imagine...and it's all worth it. You might want to start mentioning to friends/family about how your favorite pet store offers gift cards if ever they ask about birthday or other holiday gifts..... (heck, I just got a Drinkwell fountain with the gift card I got for my birthday - one of the most enjoyable gifts I've ever gotten!)

Welcome!!!!

I'm so happy you found TCS! Your little girl is so precious!
I can't wait to hear more about her! There are a lot of forums on here ranging from all sorts of topics. Behavior, care, grooming, toys, and posting pictures of your sweet girl.

I hope you love your first kitty!

I also want to say you made a good choice in adopting an older kitty as your first cat! Enzo was 4 months when I got him, Leya was 6 months, and Stuart was 2 months! I wanted to pull out my hair every time a got another one!!!!! They have SOOOO much energy when they are young and have a thing for destroying things
Not only did you bypass the terrior stage, but you adopted a cat that had little chance of finding a good home because of its age. Thank you so much!!!
