So as many of you know I have been posting about a stray I found about 3 weeks ago. First I said I vaccinated her and was worried that I hurt her babies... then the vet did an ultra sound and said she was not pregnant... so I was convinced she was early in her pregnancy because her nipples are huge and she is loosing hair around them by the day. She also gained 1.5lbs in a week, but I attribute that to me spoiling her. So here is my dilemma!...

Today she started rolling around a lot and crying... she is a vocal cat anyways... She is still a kitten (9mon) so I thought that she was either playing or uncomfortable because she is pregnant. But then when I was petting her she started doing the needing thing with her back legs like she is in heat.

I cannot find anywhere about cats being in heat and their nipples growing. Someone asked if she could have just had kittens and thats why her nipples are pink but I don't think so because they are getting larger and the hair is moving away from them. Just two days ago all but one nipple was enlarged, today all are and all have hair missing around them.

I am sooooooo confusedddddddd!

She probably had a false pregnancy hince the large nipples and swollen belly and then went into heat.

Yeah, I think she's in heat too! Time to spay before she drives you crazy!!
Maybe she had a false pregnancy! Can't the vets do blood tests or something to figure out that stuff!

Nova had the symptoms you're describing. She gained 2 lbs, lost fur around her nipples, they were big and pink, and she was even nesting!

I was confused because she would lay on her side cooing and "pedaling" with her back legs; it was especially confusing that she was doing this at 71 days. It turned out that she wasn't pregnant, and she probably was in heat. False pregnancy.

I was a mess. I was worried that her kittens were stuck (or not alive, because we also had her vaccinated), she was taking so long. In retrospect, it's kind of silly because we made four nesting boxes, hurried home to be with her, and got up at night to check on her. I'm sleeping much better now that I don't need to worry about it.

Is it possible that she has already had kittens, before you got her? If so, that would explain the nipples being large and missing hair around them.

Someone else said that too, but I don't think so because when she came to my house only some of her nipples were enlarged and now they all are. Her nipples have also turned pinker and lost hair around them. Now that I think of it... to tell you the truth, the first day I didn't even notice her nipples so I don't think that they were enlarged at all. She is definitely progressing like she is pregnant.

Also, I counted back 9 weeks from the day we found her, thinking that maybe she had a litter and they died or that she raised a litter, etc...I just thought that was a good time frame... and that would be the last week of December. I live in the mountains, and let me tell you, there was about 2 ft of snow here then... we just don't get pregnant cats here around that time. And the vet thinks she is 9 months old, that would have made her born in July (if I'm correct) and she wouldn't have been 4 months until the end of October or the beginning of November. But the probability that she got pregnant between October and December is very, very low.

This is what a breeder told me tonight... "BUT i have had cats call when pregnant and mate as well but still have their kittens to the expected date of the first mating....I can't tell you why it happens but it does."

NOVA: Ugh how horrible! I can't wait till this mess just gets figured out, I am so anxious and stressed!

Is there any way you can get her in to the vet to be spayed sooner? It would help calm your nerves a bit.

Well my vet always has at least a 2 week wait so I don't think we could do much sooner
