I went to a potluck birthday party last night. I had planned on making something, some sort of taco dip to bring with me.

At the last minute, I did what I always do and chickened out and decided to bring something store bought instead.

So, I went to the local bakery (very well known with very good food) and picked up a couple of pasta salads.

It was a hit at the party until...

Everyone that ate the salad has been puking and sick
My friend called me this morning and the first thing he said was "are you sick?" I said "no, why?".."did you eat that salad you brought?".."no I wasn't that hungry.."

Anyway, it turns out that everyone who ate one of the salads I brought is sick!!

I feel so bad, and now I've learned that I will ALWAYS make my own dishes from now on when going to potlucks.

Geesh, I am a poisoner of my friends

Definitely go tell the store. I would think about the health dept., too, just in case you get the run around from the store. You are not a poisoner, but next time make that dip.

Inform the store and report them. It could have been due to improper handling, cooler may not be at the proper temperature, or it could have been old. Was there any of it left?

Hopefully no one was too sensitive to this, it would be horrible if someone was hospitalize for it!

I think I had salmonella the weekend before last. That's the only thing I can figure that fits all the symptoms.

Did you know that virtually everyone gets food poisoning at least once per year? Did you know the most common place to get it is in your own kitchen?

Are they sure it was from your salad?? If it's a potluck it could have been anything!

If it was, tell the store how many people they made sick....

Aww.. that's rough. I hope that everyone gets better quick. Did you contact the store where you bought the salads?

I am waiting for new developments so I can know for sure it was my salad that caused the ruckus. My friend is calling all the people to see if they are sick or not and if they ate the salad or not.

Once I know for sure, I will call the bakery.

Geesh!
I try to save them from my cooking and this is what happens.

Nat....unless you get all the food tested in a laboratory, no one will know where the bacteria came from - they cannot just blame what you brought.

Sometimes in the case of food poisoning, one person gets a lot of the bacteria, while others get a smaller amount and don't suffer any ill effects.

Really, it could have been anything - the best thing to do is write it off. It happens. If people start dying, then thats where you worry.

Don't blame yourself. You cannot possibly know.

If you do end up contacting the bakery, you might want to avoid using an accusatory tone, as the salads may just have been left unchilled too long at the party itself. Anyway, something other than the salads could have caused the trouble.

I have never been good at being accusatory
People normally walk all over me for that reason
But yeah, If I call them, it will only be to let them know.
