Hi, I have a week old litter of 6 Siamese kittens. 5 Seem normal and plump but the 6th kitten is underweight but eating and making the usual noises. What really worries me is that his genital area is a dark red/brown colour. I thought it was dirty so wiped it with a damp piece of cotton wool but of course it wasn't. I haven't a clue what this is. Does anybody have any idea please?

Could it just be his coloring??? Im no kitten expert! How much does he weigh?? Do you have the chart on how much kittens should weigh at that point?? If not I can give it to you if you have a way to weigh them!!

Yes, I will make an appointment for tomorrow. I was hoping to find out today though. I have a suspicion that it is something serious and that nothing can be done. Hope I am wrong though. A very small kitten with a problem usually doesn't make it. I don't think my vet will be able to do anything. I will weigh him shortly. I am not optimistic about the situation.

Don't give up hope. I hand-raised 2 kittens from a litter of 4(the mother had rejected them and the 2 other siblings died). They were already 3 days old and only weighed 2 ounces. They were VERY premature! However, they are now both big, healthy kitties!

So, in other words, with alot of hope, prayers, and work, anything is possible.

I'll keep your little kitten in my prayers and thoughts. Good vibes headed your way!

The tiny kitten has been prescribed antibiotics. My vet thinks it is urine burn and it not too hopeful for his future. He may be incontinent. He has put on a little weight since yesterday, about 10 grams which isn't bad but he is still less than half the weight of the others in the litter. We will just have to watch and wait to see what happens. Nothing more can be done really.

Is mom still feeding and cleaning him? If she is then he may have a chance. They have a sense if their too sick to make it and usually won't take care of them. That doesn't mean you can't save him though. Good luck

Yes, Mum is feeding him. Don't know about the cleaning though as I haven't actually been watching. I have been bathing the sore area as it is trying to heal and becoming hard. Don't want him feeling uncomfortable. I put some antiseptic cream on the area. It is looking a little bit better but this morning he looked bloated so I phoned my vet and he told me to give him some liquid paraffin to make him pass poo. He might be constipated now. What next? Mum still cares for him as she panics when I lift him up to inspect him. He has put on a few grams but that might just be due to him being constipated.
