I was just talking with my neighbors son and he was saying how he really liked my car and that right now he would give me 1300 for it. I have to say it took a lot not to bust out laughing on the spot. Right now Kelley Blue Book lists my car (on private party sale) as 3780 as excellent, 3430 as good (this would be the level of my car because of some body damage 1 dent in back) and 2975 for poor. 2300 is what I paid for it last year this time of the year. So I went on to tell him why I would not sale it that cheap 1.) I have 160.00 radio in it that I bought last year that still lists as 160. It can play flash drives, MP3 players, I-Pods etc 2.) I have a 300.00 amp in it 3.) expensive bass box in it 4.) interior is in brand new condition. 5.) only body damage is a dent from last year by the trunk 6.) a gasket has to be replaced (sits in trunk just needs to be installed) And he thinks I will sale for 1300. And he went on to try and tell me that because it is not the stock radio the value of my car goes down. Umm yeah I don't think this guy has ever bought a car before because around here people will pay good money if the car has a top notch radio, expensive amp and bass box.

So yeah unless he comes up with some more money I ain't selling. Plus I am gonna hang on to the car until the truck I want comes within a price range I can afford. But just for giggles I will run by a friends (car dealer that I bought my car from) and find out how much mine could be sold for like it is. Something tells me it will be worth more than 1300.

He must have thought you were a "woman" when it comes to cars and didn't really know what you were talking about.

I think some guys think we don't know about cars

All I have to say is if I had a moment of insanity and did sale the car for 1300 the radio, box, and amp are going with me. That alone is worth at least 560.00. The radio I got new, the bass box we had but was about 100 when we bought it, and the amp retails for 300 but got a good deal when a pawn shop owner had no idea what he was selling.

And then the mom thought maybe she could buy it later this year if she said she would make payments on it. Yeah ok like that will happen. When I do sale it it will cash full in hand I ain't monkeying around with payments.

I hope you don't find your car broken into and stuff missing now!

Just tell him that you appreciate the offer, but you are not interested in selling the car at this time. And suggest he look in the Blue Book for car values and do a little researching on the net.

Suggest he look into finding a car thru auctions - that's where we got a lot of our cars. We'd drive them for a year or so, fix what needed to be done, and resell them for more then we paid at auction

Beck its a 98 Malibu.

Nat its doubtful that will happen. 1) he does not live out here and 2) He is a good kid.

Golden thats kinda what I already told him. I told him to go to the guy I bought my car and tell him to price range he is looking to buy in and he can come up with something for him. Around here private individuals can not go to the auctions unless its a public auction and not many of those happen around here. Husband said tho that if the boy could come up with 3500 (the middle ground of what the war is worth) we could sale it and get me a nicer car. But I kinda like my car and wanna hang on to it till I can buy my truck.

I have a 82 corvette that strangers off the street have enquired about buying. I have to be very careful cause my husband might take them up on it one day. The car is a Money pit......Don't get me wrong it's a really nice car, it takes alot of money to keep it in good shape.

Sometimes it's good to sell a car before it becomes a money pit, and nickel and dimes you to death as in my case. You have to get a good price for your car to make it worth your while.
