Knee crunching - is it worth seeing a doctor about?

My right knee makes a grinding, crunchy sound when it bends (even when non weight bearing). It's uncomfortable if I'm squatting down, and stand back up again, and feels a little weak but not painful.

I've had an arthroscopy on my left knee to clear out some cartilage which was rubbing and causing my knee to actually lock up, which my right knee isn't doing.

I'm inclined to ignore it since it isn't causing pain as such, but I'm wondering if it is likely to get worse if I ignore it? I've put on weight in the last few years, so I'm not sure if it's just related to that, and will get better as I can now get back into exercise again.

Anyone else had similar pain and had it checked out?

Checking with your doctor and an x-ray could help your piece of mind.

My knees snap/pop and make a weird grinding feeling that's hard to hear - but I have really shifty patellas.

Oh you can clearly hear mine! It seems more when I straighten it rather than when I bend it.

Yeah, if its a crunchy noise or anything like that you could have broken your bone without knowing it and it could be grinding together!
