Beauty suddenly started howling this evening. She was sat on the stairs first time, then decided to go through to my brother's room and howled again.

I'm rather worried because she doesn't usually start howling like that! She howled twice then stopped, but since stopping she hasn't let any of us near her!

She has only just started it. Does she need to go to the vets?

There have been no recent changes to our household so it can't be that!

Anyone who knows can you let me know please why she's doing it? I would prefer to know tonight if she needs to go to the vets. It's kind of urgent.

Is she in heat? Is she spayed yet? Sorry I don't remember...

Is she in pain if you do pick her up?

I would call the vet if she seems to be in pain.

This doesn't sound like normal behavior for Beauty. I would take Beauty to the vet. Better safe than sorry.

I agree. If she hasn't been spayed yet, she could be in heat. If not then I'd say a vet visit is in order. I'm sorry I'm not more help. It's just so hard to know and especially when the symptoms are so vague. I hope she's alright. Keep us posted.

I would say she needs to see a vet then...if she is not letting you near her..she might be in pain.

I'll have a word with my family and see if we can take her to the vets tomorrow. If not I'll carry her there in her cage Tuesday if necessary.

I'll try to get near her to see if she will let me near her now (if she's come out of hiding from under my brother's bed)

Please make sure that the vet does a senior blood panel on Beauty as howling can be a symptom of many different things that can develop as a cat ages.

Good luck!

One of our kitties gives a weird yowling sound when his stomach is upset and he does it just prior to vomiting.

If she's not letting you near her and she's hiding - all of these things to me say she should go to the Doc when you can get her there.

that it's just a strange smell or something freaking her out.

She doesn't seem to be as bad today. She'll let me near her to stroke her, but I haven't as yet tried to pick her up!

She's had her tail down for some of the day. I've found out that another member of the family gave her some new food yesterday so could it be upsetting her stomach and that's why she was howling?

I'll keep an eye on her tonight and then decide if she needs to go to the V word (she's in the room now so I can't type the place we will take her if she needs to go. She knows the V word and the D word)

Ah, Kitty holds his tail right down if he has an upset tummy and he is very sensitive to food. I`m guessing whatever new food she was given has given her a bit of tummy ache. Hope she`s feeling better
