Will wonders never cease!

As some of you know, my 8 year old cat, Pearl, was abused and traumatized before I got her, and has since been a loner, preferring to live her life in the closet or under the bed. We let her do as she pleases, hoping that someday she would feel safe enough to become a full fledged member of the household. Lately she has decided she likes being held and cuddled, and has stayed on the bed with the other cats, drawing closer and closer. I feed her away from the others because I was afraid she was not getting enough food, and she would get nervous and throw up all over the place. Last night I went to make sure Scooter had not sneaked in to eat her food, and what I saw was unbelievable. Scooter was eating her food, but she was standing shoulder to shoulder with him licking his face. She slept last night touching paws with him, and allowed Pepper to sniff her face with no swatting or hissing. I am thrilled that after 7 years she is finally coming around and realizing that she is safe and loved.

Wow that's great! What must have happened to that poor cat in her first year for her to take 7 years to trust.
