Oh you guys I am just over the moon about my wedding cake topper!!! I ordered a gorgeous one through this company called "Toppers with Glitz" -the lady who owns the company handmakes each one- so every one she makes is unique. WOW! I just got mine in the mail the other day and i can not possibly rave enough about it! If any of you are getting married anytime soon or know someone who is- definitely consider her! Her work is amazing!!!
I will see if my mom will let me borrow her camera tomorrow so that i can snap some pictures of it- it's gorgeous!

I'm doing a simple little 3 tier wedding cake it's going to be clover green with white polka dots and each tier is a different flavor. Since i didn't get a huge cake or want flowers- i wanted a simple topper that would really stand out. I ordered an initial topper -it's shaped like a G and it's got several different shades of light green stones and pearls all over it. I have to get a picture of it- i love it!!! It's the only thing i really splurged a little on for the wedding as i'm trying to do the rest on a shoe string. I'm soo glad i went with that company though- the results are awesome!
I sent the owner an email telling her how happy i was too! (i always think if you're really happy with the customer service you get with a company- you should let them know! I'm sure places get sick of complaints/etc so a "good job" is welcome.)

After our wedding i'm planning to clean off the topper and then put it in a little shadow box so that i can frame it and always have it in the house! It's one of those pieces i'm hoping lasts a life time.

Anyways if any of you are interested in this company-i'll post the link at the bottom. She will custom make just about anything you want! I could not be more happy over my topper!!!!
I'll get some pictures of it soon to share with everyone! I am soo thankful for how it turned out! I just had to share!!!

Dont forget to take a piece of the cake and stick it in the deep freeze so years for now you can enjoy your wedding cake on your anniversary!! I didn't have a big wedding, and to tell you the truth, the store bought cake that was maybe 5 bucks ended up being smashed all over my BIL (lets just say, Im not his biggest fan...) My whole wedding cost under $100... and I planned it in 2 days!
Enjoy the moment!! (I was breastfeeding at the alter... it wasn't my favorite moment!)

I wouldn't recommend putting your cake in the freezer to have on your one year (or more) anniversary. It comes out dry and flavorless and you'd be much better off just ordering a NEW (much smaller) cake from the same place you got yours and reliving the flavorful moment for real. We order one every year and are happy with that tradition.

Oh wow it does sound pretty and unique. The most unique cake we've personally seen (DH's cousin) was different flavors and the top was done as a old time bright red chevy (which is what her husband has). It was really cool

I looked at her portfolio, and she does beautiful work. If it is sturdy enough, it could be an heirloom. The framing and preserving is a great idea.

Movin' on up!
The last time, that I got marired, we had a heck of a time finding an appropriate cake topper. A few weeks before the wedding, we were in a cat-themed gift shop and found a bisque cat bride-and-groom figurine, that was perfect for us (at the time, we had 4 cats). The marriage ended, some years ago but I still have that figurine, tucked away in a box.

Wow!! It's going to be beautiful!!

LOL, yeah hubby and I did the freezer thing too, after a year, we pulled out the top of the cake, (that's what we froze), and promptly threw it away

Thankyou everyone!
I talked to my mom today and she said i could borrow her camera when i see her on Tuesday
(had to reschedule hanging out with her today since i'm sick.) I will be sure to get some great pictures of it. I LOVE it sooo much!!! I'm also going to make sure we get some cute pictures of it when it's on the wedding cake. I think it will be soo cute! I can't wait!!

I am not sure what i'm going to do about the top layer of the wedding cake. I'm not so crazy about the idea of freezing the cake for an entire year. What we may do is freeze just half of it and eat the other half now. OR what i'm leaning towards is serving the top layer at the wedding and then a year later getting the same thing in a small serving fresh from the bakery
I'm not sure yet! We'll see!!!

The colors we went with were Erinite, Crystal, Peridot, Chrysolite, White Pearl and the letter shape is "Jill." We got the 5" topper. I am soo thankful for how well it turned out

Just before trav and i were going to watch a movie i had left this thread open and he was eager to see what a topper is about. I have to admit we hadnt even thought about the wedding cake and what would go on top of it!

You just inspired us to talk more about the wedding

It sound sooo pretty!!!

We splurged on the topper for our wedding cake too. It is a red porcelain rose from Lenox. I had wanted a rose that was crystal/glass and gold, but couldn't find one I liked, but then I fell in love with the rose. It's deffinately something I wanted to be a family heirloom!

It sounds gorgeous. I can't wait to see the pictures.

We found our cake topper in a little shop attached to one of the places we like to eat breakfast. It was a very simple, stylized figurine of a bride and groom.

We froze the top layer of our wedding cake for our first anniversary. (Actually, my mom handled the freezing for us and she wrapped the bejeezus out of it and put it in a tupperware container.) It was a little dry, but otherwise fine...the mystery of not knowing how nasty it was going to be kind of added to the fun.

Very pretty! I haven't seen them used down here, so I bookmarked the site.

We froze the top layer of the cake and it was great the following year. But we lucked into making the right choices. Our cake batter was a simple vanilla flavor, which freezes better than some of the more exotic flavors. Fillings usually don't freeze as well either. The caterer wrapped the top for us, which is probably the reason it worked so well. I bet there were 4 or 5 layers of coverings. We kept it in the freezer at my parent's house, so it didn't go through any freeze/thaw/freeze stages. Pure luck.
