I will vote for a black lab/blue heeler mix.
The color and ears are lab-like, the body shape (especially the leaness & power is exactly like my son's dog) more of a heeler. The size would be right, between the two breeds.....

Cute/sweet is the winner though.

Lola's adorable!

Okay, I'm really ignorant here...how do you "de-bark" a dog. I'm pretty sure I'm going to hate the answer though.

There's a website that talks about what debarking is, and gives some other FAQs. It's not really a "cruel" procedure, but it's a procedure of convenience. I'm not really one for debarking, dogs will be dogs, even if you have a loud dog there's ways to tone things down.

When we had Felicia, who was a Pit x Heinz57 mix, and people would ask what kind she was, Dad would answer "She's an LBD - Little Black Dog."

My first reaction to Lola's breed is that she's just plain Cute, but that's not a breed.
But since she is so much smaller than Sam and Spike, I'd say she's an LBD too.

(Please...no points....I can't use all that I have now!)

Lola looks about the same size too.

Here's Bobo she'll be 15 in June.
Bobo is adorable!

DH also suspected a wee bit of rottie.

LBD's can be the best breed around! I like the term - much better than our "black dog" description!

Thanks for the link. Lola has herding breed in her and they are known for barking. But there's an anomoly about her. She's very smart but only knew the sit command when she got here (and it looks like the shelter taught her that). She got the gist of "down" in 2 tries. It doesn't look like she's attempting to bark, even when our boys run to the windows and bark at the birds and squirrels. So if her former owner debarked her with no attempt to redirect her behavior, then I'd like to shoot them.

The other black dog in our family is a black lab / setter mix which makes him look like a black setter. Interesting idea though.......

I took the 3 of them for a long walk today. Lola takes the classic border collie stance when she's out playing with Sam and Spike. Crouched down, head lowered and staring intently. When one of them start to run, she cuts off their forward motion and tries to turn them in a different direction. The 3 of them spent about 30 minutes rolling around in the snow this morning, loving every minute of it. It makes me a little nervous with her stitches, but no problems there. They're clean, not pulling and no redness.

I go with the black Lab/ Blue heeler mix too

Looks like a black version of my parents heeler mix. The behavior also fits with a heeler.

Why would ANYONE deBARK a dog?!?!?!? I guess it's as mind blowing as declawing.

That's great she's getting on with everyone - particularly Eightball!

Oh and I have no real idea about breed. Don't know my dog breeds
You'd be amazed how many people debark their dog. I find a lot of breeders do it. To cut down on the noise. Even though they still 'bark'.. it's not really a bark.. more like a hoarse rush of air.

Anyway.

Flat coated Retriever came to mind, from the shape of her face in the first shot.

My guess would be Lab/Border Collie mix or maybe possibly Lab/Australian Shepherd mix.

Some (shorthaired) purebred Border Collies:

Some Lab/Aussie mixes:

He body looks a LOT like my JD - whom we suspect to be a border collie mix. He has a lot of those same behaviors.

Thanks everyone for your ideas!! So basically I have what my mom always called a "Heinz 57 Variety" dog. I think I'll just call her cute.

Lola had her first test this morning. DH left for work and I had to hop in the shower. I let her run around the house unsupervised for 10 minutes. She passed. Just found her favorite place and laid down for a nap. Poor Sam is getting a run for the money. She plays so hard that he's getting winded. I need to find this girl a job.

It is really hard to ID mixes, but I'll go for Lab/GSD. I don't think I'm allowed to post the link, but I have seen pics that look remarkably like Lola. Females of that mix tend to be about 45-55 lbs.
If you think that is worth points, please don't give them to me, instead find someone who needs more than I do.
