What is a good program to make siggys with?

I am using Microsoft Picture It 7.0 and it's not listening to me very well. When I try to save it to a png file and make the K smaller it doesn't!!!! It says I am changing it to 6k and when I download it to photobucket it's still 96k!!!!!

I just want something I can download for free.

It doesn't matter what I save it as on my picture it (6k png), it just stays the same k!!!!

Have you tried saving it as a .jpg? Often those come out smaller.

.png files are always huge, saving it as a jpg will help.

Paint.NET and GIMP are both free and decent graphics software but take some getting used to. You could also try carrying on with what you have and compressing them in other software.
