I thought I was going to die the other day. It was so scary!

I was given a prescription the other day for a stomach bacteria that I apparently have. Anyways, I had to take 8 pills a day, on top of my celexa and birth control. I was really dizzy the first day (so bad that I couldn't walk around). I just thought that maybe it was some side effects from the pills, and I figured it would go away by the next day.
When I woke up in the morning, I felt fine. The whole day I was completely normal until about 10 at night. All of a sudden I couldn't breath very well, I started vomiting like crazy, I was shaking, and I felt like I was completely drugged. I couldn't talk, or move or do anything. After I had thrown up 15 times in a half hour, my hubby took me into the emergency. ( I threw up 3 times just on the way to the hospital) I seriously thought I was going to die. I was trying so hard to keep consious because I was afraid that it I passed out, I wouldn't wake back up.
When I got there, they took me right it. It was really freaky. I had no idea where I was and I couldn't answer any of their questions. They kept asking me if I knew where I was, but all I knew was that I was in a strange room and didn't know how I got there.
Anyways, they gave me some gravol and I started to feel a little better after an hour or so. They did some tests and ex-rays and found out what the problem was.
For the last few months I've been having problems with stomach pain and dizziness. The doctor didn't know what was causing it though. Anyways, what had happened was that my digestive system was blocked and had started to shut down. All of the pills that I had been taking for the last few days (16 antibiotics and 2 antidepressents) had been sitting in my stomach and my body just kept absorbing them. They said that I had pretty much almost OD'd on my medication.
They gave me a bunch of stuff to take and drink and sent me home for the time being. If it doesn't get better though, I'm going to have to go back in.
I'm so scared to take any medications now. I stopped taking the antibiotics for the time being.
I'm also so thirsty cause no matter how much water I drink, it just sits in my stomach and very little gets absorbed.
So that was my fun 'near death' experience. I hope I never have to go through something like that again. All I could think about the whole time was what would happen to the baby, and the animals, if I died.

What did they diagnose you as having? Gastroparesis?
That was my first thought. Just learned the term recently. Are you diabetic?

No, they tested my blood sugar when I was there and said everything was fine in that area.
They didn't really diagnose me with anything. They were kind of busy so the doctor just gave me some medication and told me to do home. I was feeling a bit better by that point though. I think that my system hasn't been working properly for a while since I've been having stomach pain for two months. I'm going to make an appointment with my doctor soon. Hopefully she can send me for some tests to see if anything is going on. My systems working a little better today, but its still not back to normal. If I start vomiting again though, I'm going right back in.

This really alarms me. Please try get in to see a doctor tomorrow -you'll probably need a referral to a GI specialist. I'm surprised they even sent you home (I ended up admitted for something that was mostly harmless). The chance of dehydration, on it's own, is a serious risk thats not to be taken lightly.
Please don't wait till you're critical again.

...This certainly doesn't sound like everything is "ok".

-If you don't need a referral, start calling around and try to get in with a GI doc.

I agree -- you need to be looked at a lot more closely, no matter how much better you may feel. There's some reason why your digestive system is "blocked," and you've got to find out what it is. Get to a real doctor tomorrow -- please?

I'm going to call my family doctor today to make an appointment. I don't feel so dehydrated today, so I think all the medications that they gave me to take are working, but I'm worried that once I stop taking them, things will start to block again. I'm wondering if this is what has been causing all my abdominal pain the last few months. My doctor will probably send me right away for some tests. She's great like that. Anyways, I'll definately let you guys know what's going on. I'm just glad I'm able to walk around without falling over again

I was supposed to go in to the doctors today, but unfortunatly, our car broke down(just our luck) so I guess I'll have to wait until monday. At least I'm not really sick still.

I agree that you should see a specialist to find out what's going on. Even though you are feeling better now, it's something that should be looked into further..

I hope it's nothing serious!
