My cat Nemo is set to have kittens any time now. This is my first (and last) litter of kittens so I am kinda nervous about it. I was wondering last night.....if the kittens are born in the box that I have made for them and they are soooo tiny that they can barely walk, where do the kittens go to the bathroom? I guess they just do it in the box and it needs to be cleaned constantley?

sorry if this is a silly question but I was just wondering!

Thanks

Don't worry - it sounds gross to us but the mamacat will take care of it for you. She stimulates the kittens to go after eating by licking their bottoms and cleaning them up. Provide her with a litter box near her nestbox and eventually she will teach the kittens to use it.

On other things - You should be giving the pregnant cat good quality kitten food now, so that she is in the best possible condition for nursing. And she may try to get outside within a few days of giving birth - cats can go back into heat very quickly. Be very careful not to let her have the opportunity.

DOn't forget to be ready to take pix when they arrive and post them for us. Good luck and welcome to the forum!

Mom cleans up the kittens till they are eating solid food on their own - no need to keep changing the bedding

Whew...that's a relief!
I was worried I would have to wipe my 4 year olds butt, my 7 months old butt and clean up after the kittens. Yeah for momma for doing this!!!

thanks for your replies.

Hey look at the bright side, with YOUR kids at least you get to use babywipes and not your tongue!

(thanks for that visual Jenny!)
