All that does is ensure that criminal's prey is now unarmed. And I'm sure that the Bryant guy would have found a different way to kill a bunch of people if guns hadn't been available.
The guy who showed up in a classroom with his legally purchased weaponry and killed 5 peers from my area last week....well, the gun certainly helped him as I doubt he could have done as much damage otherwise, and he was an otherwise upstanding citizen who obtained his guns legally. There was also another mass shooting in my area recently, though admittedly, little is known about that shooter. However, to take down the 5 people he took down as quickly as he did AND still be on the run...he needed the gun's help. They certainly expedite and facilitate the malicious intentions of the owner.
I'm going to, as Ghandi said, "be the change I wish to see in the world." I do not and will not own a gun. Not because of fear, but in solidarity with everyone who has lost a loved one needlessly to gun violence.
Oh, and about the car thing...cars are a tool that most of us need multiple times a day to carry out functional lives. Industry and economy in this country would grind to a halt without cars because we depend on our mobility. Last time I checked, most of us do not need to shoot anyone to go about our daily lives.
