My 14 yr old cat has been feeling poorly about five days. Main symptom - she appears to ache all over, the way we might when we contract a flu virus. She sleeps all the time, a very deep sleep that nothing much can wake her out of. Her appetite has dropped off, although she does eat a little every time she gets out of bed, which is only 3-4 times a day. The vet can only suggest doing blood tests, something she had not long ago. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Is it possible that she is in fact fighting a flu type bug, or is it indicitive of a more serious problem someone out there is familiar with? Thanks..........

She is getting older, and as with any cat, when they advance in age their body starts to break down. I would run a chem panel on her just to be safe, and just give her a dark, quiet warm place to lay down if she needs it.

I don't really have any REAL advice, but I would say to go along with what hissy said, and yeah, this cat is definetly getting on in years. Not too abnormal for cats her age to act this way.

About the appitete, talk to the vet about that, and your other concerns of course, just to be on the safe side. Was this a sudden change in behavoir, or has she become like this gradually over time?
I'm hoping that you are feeding her a proper diet, seniors need good nutrition too.

All the above is great advice. I will be the first to tell you that the bloodwork will help put your mind at ease, and you will know for sure how she's doing. When they get up in age, there are some basic body functions that can effect everyday life for them. Some problems can be corrected with medication and help give them some extra quality years. This is not saying that something is wrong, but it will put your mind at ease.
