I have a 21 year old sister who has Muscular Dystrophy. She has been rapidly declining. She lives in a nursing home. Today she is having surgery to place a feeding tube. Surgery is VERY risky for her because she does not do well under anestesia. It also takes a lot out of her. Please pray that the surgery goes well.
After she recovers from surgery they are going to call in hospice.

I hate this disease. My sister is a sweet and caring and intelligent person, she also has great faith. This is so unfair, she knows exactly what is happening to her body. Sometimes I think that having a disease that affects your cognition would almost be kinder (please forgive me, no offense meant). She has been a best friend to me and this all really sucks.

This is part of the reason we are moving, to be closer to her in the short time we can. Right now we live 6 hours away and we are moving to a city 1 hour away.

Anyway, thank you for your prayers.

No offense taken -- both kinds of illness are cruel and heartbreaking, and I'm so sorry your sister is among those suffering. My thoughts are with her.

I hope it all goes smoothly. What a horrible thing to have to deal with. She's lucky to have loving family to support her.

Many for your sister, and some for you as well!

As a Harley rider, I work to raise money for MDA every year - it's a cause that is near and dear to many a biker's heart.

I wish your sister and your family the very best!

thank you for all your support.
I am so scared and worried! I have been on pins and needles all morning!
My mom just called and said that there was a delay due to a lab error. They just administered the anestisia 20 minutes ago. The doctor told my mom a half an hour for surgery and then up to 2 hours of close monitoring as she comes out of it.
More waiting.

Sending many vibes for her that everything goes smoothly for the surgery

It must be hard to see your sister in that way

It is. It is very heartbreaking. I was 6 when she was born and as we grew we became friends and planned on living next to each other as adults and all that. It has been so awful to watch her loose one thing after another. She was lucky enough to have her own apartment for less than a year (with cartakers that came multiple times a day). Then she lost that, she needed too much care (and 24 hour care). Then she got weaker and weaker. Then she is pretty much confined to her power wheelchair. And today the way she eats is forever changing.
This world is really not fair! Why do I have the nice life I have? It is not fair.

My sister is out of surgery and called me herself. It was such a relief to hear her voice that I cried!

Oh my. I'm so sorry.

Love and luck, coming your way.

Glad to hear she came out alright, though. I hope everything continues to go well.
