So Benson has developed a new habit. Anytime he is told NO he reaches out to the closest cat and smacks them on the head. It's been happening for a week now. Cello is finally smacking him back but poor Spunky is confused and runs away.

Anyone else ever have this issue? It's new to us even with 7 cats.

I'm a terrible person because this made me laugh. It's so funny (unless you're the cat on the receiving end).

My cat psychology 101 take on it - misplaced/displaced aggression. He'd really like to be smacking you guys on the head but a) you're too big and b) when cats are mad, they can't really differentiate between who they're mad at and the rest of the world.

Am I awful because it makes me laugh a little?

Nope...it's why I posted this. I just found it too funny not to share.

But I do wonder why it started out of the blue.

That's a relief, because it cracks me up.

Hehe that is too cute.

Im sure he's just mad because he got the what-for. So he takes it out on his sibblings, just like human sibblings do. Or it could be that the one he smacks dared him to be mischivious, so he gives them a bat and possibly saying "You got me in trouble!"

Whenever a smack occurs at my house, it's when there's pent up energy/frusteration.

Like when Ophelia wants to attack
When PJ or Punky wants to play
When Cow wants to eat & another kitty is in the way
When Squishy wants to play with HIS toy
When Lily wants Twitch to play

Get the idea?

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
I've never had them doing it like that

Sophie's the smacker in my house. If Jack bugs her she gives him 3 sharp whacks on the head or back.

She can sniff his rear end, but the minute he sniffs hers she spins around she stands on her back paws and whacks him with the left paw, then the right paw and again with the left paw.

He only wants to play as well but she doesn't want to know, but he doesn't understand?

Princess is like Sophie. She does the 3 fast smacks when she doesn't want to be bothered.

Yea Benson is very unique.

This sort of thing went in motion in my house the other day...

Shark walked past Arwen, and batted her twice round the head..then Brandy came past Shark and batted her...then Arwen and Brandy batted each other!

It sure made me chuckle!

Lucky does that when Cello walks past him. This is different....kinda evil...

He is the bully of the house and I don't know how it started.

Just be glad it isn't you getting bopped on the head... here it's just me and Seamus, so when he gets angry or frustrated it's me who bears the brunt of it, especially when I'm sitting on the computer and he doesn't know what to do with himself!

I'm sorry, but I'm picturing a "3 Stooges" episode here!
