I went to feed kitty kafe today and low and behold skittles walked right up to me. I have been trying to trap her since she was a few weeks old but last time i did catch her she bit and scratched me bad so out of pain and fear i let her go. Today i just simply reached down and picked her up. She has a slight limp that the vet says is nothing, maybe just a bruised muscle. I have her in a large pet taxi in my kitchen away from my psychotic dogs. Now what? Usually once the ferals are as old as she is I dont bring them inside, but the vet thinks she may be pregnant already, its a bit early to tell if she is for sure. If i open the door to the taxi she hisses at me so i dont wanna stress her to much. You guys know more about this then i do, so what next? I have a home for her, if i choose, but they want her for a "barn cat". She would live outside and be free to roam as she chooses. How long before we know about the possible kittens and how long does it take before she has them if she is?

I'm a little confused - the vet didn't tell you if she was pregnant?

A pet taxi is too small a container in which to keep a cat for any length of time. If she's an older feral, being a barn cat would probably be a good option if you don't want to take the time (which could be considerable depending upon how old she is - and I'm talking months to years) to socialize her.

Having been involved in rescue for some time now, we always spay the cats whether they are pregnant or not - dependent upon how far along they are, and that is a decision we leave to our vet.

However, if she's pregnant and you want to keep her and then adopt out the kittens, you need to either release her into a room you can close off to other pet traffic, or you need to purchase a large crate for her - one with enough room for a nest in which to have the kittens, and large enough to contain litter, food and water - large enough that they're not next to each other.
