Cat carriers

I just realised that I don't have one! Never needed it, we had a little one for Memphis and I lent it to an old friend and never got it back... So now that I'm getting a cat in a few weeks I thought I should get one.

You know, the Paris Hilton and her Chihauhua (I've never been able to spell that dog...) sort of bag.
I assume it'd be more comfortable for the cat but maybe I'm quite mistaken?

Are there other options for transporting pets? I could always get a harness that clips onto the seatbelt, I've seen them, but it might be a bit freaky for the cat.

I prefer the hard sided carriers for safety, especially if you are going to be showing you will need a good carrier.

Having recently experienced a feline freak out in a carrier which resulted in the door being broken off and mangled, a loose cat, and me covered in scratches, make sure you get a really sturdy built to last type of carrier!

I have one plastic carrier and a Sherpa-like soft sided carrier. I don't like the "backpack" idea. This might be one you like

They have similar soft-sided ones in Petsmart or Petco that are more reasonable.

I know they have dog bones on the side BUT they have steal bars that you connect when your using it on top and when your done it folds nicely to fit under the bed. Of course they don't recomend using it for cats that claw since it IS a soft sided crate, but its nice and sturdy when the kittys are in there but still collapes when your not using it! Not to mention that it is top and front loading! I have the one thats rated up to 15lbs.

How did I know you'd say something like that. You can pretty up the PP20's http://www.bubblesnscrubbles.com.au/...y106.inetstore I've seen nicer cover (without lace, I'm not into lace) at shows.

The only problem I see with the one on Ebay is the handle is attached to the top opening part, so if you have a heavier cat it's not as strong. I've seen them pop open before, unless you wanted to carry it with a strap all the time.

I've got Sherpa bags - the medium and large size. The first one I got as a gift when I adopted Dharma for her trip home from Petsmart - the second one I just got for Dante as a Christmas gift (well, I got the gift certificate, but he got the present). They actually sleep in them - I often leave them out. They're sturdy, you can take them on the plane, and it's reasonably easy to get an unhappy cat into one!

I have one of each of the soft sided crates mentioned above.
The port-a-crate one is a pain to collapse, so it is set up all of the time - not bad thing as the girls will sleep in there at times. I did have an issue with the frame making the sides so tight that the zipper didn't want to close all of the way.
We got a medium Sherpa carrier for my daughter's cat. Because it is vented on 5 of 6 sides, we cover it with a towel when going outside in the cold weather. It's lighter weight and nicer - but much more $$$$.

You can order one with heaters in them too. These are the only pet beds my cats sleep in, and they easily convert into carriers. I have received many compliments on them. They are easy to put a seatbelt around in the car too.

I love the look of the Sleeppods!

George actually has two carriers, a Sherpa type and the traditional hard carrier. He's not happy being in either one but since he's a big cat (16 lbs or so!) the Sherpa one is easier for me to carry. He doesn't leave the house very often so neither one gets much use.

I'm going to try to buy one of these... I think ebay is my best bet, since I'm in Australia.
I didn't want to turn up at the breeder empty handed, making a bad impression! I thought if I showed her that I was ready for it then she'd feel better about me

Hope she isn't offended I'm using one with bones on the sides hahaha
