Taz just came meowing into the house with *something* clutched in her jaws. She drops it on my lap and it is a mud dauber's nest! Thank God it is an old one! I quickly threw it away and gave her a bottle cap. Lord have Mercy, she is such a riot! I just hope this summer she doesn't mess with a live nest...! I thought for a minute there it was a piece of dried horse manure. Great, Squirrel brings in the walnut shells from the tree, and Taz brings in dried insect nests- what next? They aren't even a year old yet!

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I'm glad you mentioned that a mud dauber is an insect, because I didn't know what you were talking about.

It sure seems like you've got a handful, that's for darn sure. Maybe in the Spring they'll bring you flowers.

Laurie-

Mud Daubers are wasps of the stinging variety!
Like I said, thankfully the nest was old!

Mud dauber, that's a new one!

If you can train them to collect specific items, a farmer would love them during harvest time! They can collect potatoes, beets, etc. They could pay for their room and board!
