Lately Pepper has taken to laying in her litterbox. I mean, thank goodness I clean it every day, but it still is a gross thing to do. Is there any way I can stop her from doing this? Has anyone else had their cat do this?

I'm not sure why they do it, but I have seen lots of cats that do. Particularly those in shelters, for some reason.

This is true. Because the first day I brought Myla home from the shelter she was laying in her litter box. This behavior doesn't last long at all...perhaps a day or 2 when they get used to their surroundings.

Mojo likes to play in the box whenever I add litter to her "sandbox".
Sometimes that includes laying in it.

Thankfully, the laying in it part has gotten less and less as she's gotten older (she's about a year and a half or so), but she does like trying to catch the litter as it's being poured. Then she gets mad when I have to brush litter off her back because she jumped under the stream of litter. What a goofball!

All that is to say...your Pepper isn't a total freak of nature, and she'll probably grow out of this icky phase. (That is if I'm seeing her picture correctly in your sihnature as being fairly young.

Yeah, she's 6 months old. We've had her for almost 2 months. Hopefully it's just a phase.
