I got a new kitten in January. Zacky is about five months old now. Sally weighed 9 pounds just before I got him. I have been feeding them Wellness kitten food, free feeding. I knew Sally might gain a little but she has gained two pounds. The piggy. I wonder if Zacky is old enough to go onto a two feeding a day schedule. That way I can feed Sally a lite cat food and continue him on the kitten food. He has only gained one pound in the same amount of time.

Two pounds is an awful lot for her to have gained. Free feeding kitten food is definitely not the right choice for her. You could try Zacky on the two-meal plan, and if it's not enough, separate him from her for a short period so that he can enjoy his third meal without having to worry about her eating his food.

If feeding them seperate is an issue and near impossible, Zacky being 5 months old can eat the adult formula.I am not sure if you had Sally on adult or light when you brought Zacky home. If she was on adult, it wont be a problem for both to eat the same food. If she was on light, and you want to continue her on light, it won't hurt Zacky to eat the dry food, but you should give him some kitten wet or dry food at least a few times a day.
