Would spraying cologne around a litter box make a cat pee on the floor?

My bf is an idiot, and he decided to spray cologne right around the litter box and even above it. After that, kitty has been peeing right outside the litter box on the carpet. She's still been pooping in the litter box. He's afraid she has a uti, but I think it has to do with the scent change. She's not spayed and is in heat if that makes a difference. Does anyone know if the cologne would make her pee outside the litter box?

Well it is best to talk to your vet and rule out UTI, but that very well could cause her to pee outside the box! You should thoroughly clean the litter box and around it, with safe cleaners, and put a carpet/mat under the box.

I'm thinking it probably would cause her to not pee in the box. Cats seem to hate all kind of artificial chemically smells like that. Maybe you could try an odor neutralizer especially made for cleaning pet cages and litterboxes?

Maybe but the fact that she is in heat and not spayed is more likely the cause of peeing on the rug. I do hope you have a spay appointment set up really soon. You don't want her to get pregnant and then deal with a litter of kittens. And its not healthy to keep going in and out of heat. She can develop cancers or pyrometria which can kill her (infection of the uterus).

^^^ This is the first time she's peed outside the litter box, but she's been going into heat for a while. Why would she all of a sudden start this behavior?

PLEASE get her spayed, idk how u can even deal with her being in heat... they get so noisy it can be unbearable. Not only that, if she is not spayed and she is not being bred, she is just getting frustrated, & she can have some health problems that Goldenkitty already mentioned.\tIf u love her, get her spayed. Both of u will be much happier, and u will get rid of any health risks related to being intact.

Idk about the cologne. My cats box is in my bedroom, where I'm always spraying perfume or bodyspray on me & my bf always sprays cologne on himself in the room too & my cat has NEVER gone outside of the box.

ETA: u should really take her to the vet to check for a UTI-thats the most common problem in cats that pee outside of the box, while ur there u should make an appt for a spaying-if u haven't done so already. Good luck!
