Swimming inside the toilet bowl.
Joji was watching it from above. Either it surfaced from the drainage system or Joji must have caught it and dumped it in.
Anyway, wearing a heavy duty glove, I grabbed the poor mouse and released it outside in the garden. Unfortunately, an hour later I found it dead. The other cats hunted it down.

RIP, little mousey. He may have died from shock, too. Good job getting him outside so he could have a chance.

I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped it in there. With the number of people on this forum that have stories of being brought wet toys (or finding toys in water dishes and toilets) it definitely seems to be a source of entertainment for cats.

DH's comment for what your cat may have been thinking... "mmm soup"

I would have freaked out if that was me! That poor mouse!! At least you tried to save him. I'm reminded of some movie or tv show or something I saw where they saved a mouse or some small creature and set him free and as it ran away a hawk came down and swiped it up...

That's exactly what I was going to say. I'm not sure what Joji means, but the origin is obvious.

If the kanji used to write it is 女児, it would be girl.
A fitting name for a girl cat.

Well yayi, cats are natural born hunters!
