My two have been on the Royal Canin Urinary SO wet and dry for about 3 weeks. This is due to Pepsi getting repeated UTI's.
They have settled down with the food and are eating it just fine, in fact Milo is turning into a tubby boy so have had to cut back!
My question is that I have noticed they are both drinking more. Is this normal?

Many urinary diets are high in salt, so that may be the reason, but I don't know if the royal canin is one of them. I would double check with your vet, if they regularly send home that food, they should be familiar with any side effects.

Charlie is on that too - but he's always been a good drinker of water. So I'm sure its normal. If you are worried, maybe call the vet. I'm not sure how much "extra" drinking would be a sign of diabetes - all I know is that they say if your cat is drinking a lot, its one of the signs.

Morty had crystals in his urine a few years ago and was given that food by the vet. It has a salt in it that makes them thirsty so they will drink more, and therefore reduce their risk of urinary tract crystals and blockage risks by increasing their fluid intact. So yes they will drink more. At least thats what my vet told me. Good Luck.

As long as it is not a symptom of something else, then a cat can't really drink too much. The thing to look for is any drastic change in drinking habits that is not accountable to something.

Nuh uh...might give me away!
Perfectly normal. My vet told me that they would drink more on the exact same food. If you have the money, look into a water fountain for them (if you don't already have one). Mine drank a lot of water before the SO and drink even more now, but with the fountain I don't have to worry about refilling a bowl several times a day.

I used to sell SO, yes it is an desired result of the food. you of course should also see an increase in urination. If you don't then there would be reason to call the vet.
The diet works in two ways
1. it increases the amount of water intake, thusly diluting the minerals in the urine
2. lowers the pH of the urine so that struvites dissolve, and oxilates cease formation.
