Afro Samurai (2007)

Before renting this a fundamental question must be asked. How much do you LOVE Samuel L. Jackson? Are you a fan or a super fan? Trust me. It's going to be very important because you are going to live with him on a large scale for two hours.

Now, this series breaks two big rules of Anime:

1. Don't tell the audience more than they need to know about the background of the characters.

2. Keep the dialog at a basic level.

For two hours you are going to be party to an American version of what we think Anime should be. To me it doesn't really work. In fact, it's a haul to get through. However, my husband LOVED it. I really think that this is a guy thing along the lines of Rambo and Die Hard.

If you see it and like it then great, but there are MUCH better series out there.

I didn't like him enough to subject myself to Snakes on a Plane so I doubt this one will be on my must see list.

This series is a lot like the role he played in Pulp Fiction. Just extend it for two hours and make it slightly more violent.

It's just not for everyone.

Hmm, I realy like Samuel L Jackson, and the movie actually sounds interesting! Is it like Kill Bill?

Yes... but Kill Bill is better. You know the scene at the end of the first Kill Bill where the two women fight in the snow. There's a scene in this that echoes it, but kind of punches it up a little. It was fun to watch.

I might have to check it out, I like those kung- fuesque movies

Now when you put it like that... if it's only slightly more violent then it's not near as bad as the Grindhouse productions of Planet Terror and Death Proof.

I'd put it on par with Grindhouse. This isn't a movie for kids.
