I have a Ragdoll American Bobtail cross breed. He is 15 months old and weighs 12 pounds. He is very big boned and the vet says he will continue to grow until he is 3 or 4 years old. The vet has also predicted he might end up being 20 pounds. I'm guessing more like 15-18.

My newest kitten is tiny, small bones and feels light as a feather in comparison to my male cat. She is a silver shaded Persian and only weighed 1.5 pounds at 10 weeks. She has been gaining a little under a pound a month now and is only expected to be between 5 & 7 pounds full grown - we'll see.

If anyone has experience with any of the breeds and can confirm or deny these predictions, please do reply.

Thanks,
Angel

GingerBoy here...we found him when he was 3~4 weeks of age according to our vet. Teeth exam n all. Here is a pic of our sweet boy just turning 6 months a few weeks ago.....at 4 months. His Size and length weight took off like a rocket! Ice lived and cared for Animals many kitties for 40 yrs. This seems a bit unusual. 8lbs at 6 months. Tall. Very Long. His shoulders 13" long stretched out over 2' easily in length.stretched. he developed new coloring a white 1/2" length spot top center of his head. He's gentle beyond gentle and tender with his two sisters siblings. Are of a normal size. At one time by 4 months of age. All were primarily the same height length weight . One a little cubby than the next. But basically the same size. He appears to have lots of dots and rings going down his Tail. Though has markings like a tabby on his head.. Further measures are needed I can provide. Has anyone had a kitten such as this? I'm new to this forum. Any information would be appreciated. Sincerely.

Hey katnkittens,

My ginger kitty Peaches was also found as a stray. He is approaching 6 months and he's already 8 lbs too. He's not quite as tall but he has broad shoulders. Like human babies we all seem to be getting bigger as the generations go by. If you're concerned about him putting on weight too fast, you  should make sure he's on a high protein, low carb, grain free diet. Look at the ingredients on the cat food. It should contain no wheat, soy, potatoes gluten, or corn. Those are all unnecessary fillers in many cat foods and aren't well digested.

KatnKitten,

My mom who has also raised cats for over 40 years was also surprised to find her cats getting bigger and bigger. My other advice to you, is to make sure he is getting wet food at least once a day. I find that from the research I've been doing; kitties who eat completely wet food or a combination wet/dry food tend not to get as heavy, as a strictly dry food diet.  I also wanted to add especially as cats mature, feeding your kitties wet food from an early age will prevent kidney problems/ urinary tract infections. Spend more money on good quality food, spend less time at the vet. Peaches loves his wet food at night, but during the day since I'm not around I leave a small amount of dry kibble in his bowl. Nature's Variety Instinct and Wellness are great brands. They're more expensive than Friskies but the quality is worth it!

Beautiful kitten! He is a beautiful tabby, and indeed very big for his age. I have found that feeding kittens a good diet and as much as they will eat does seem to let them grow to their full potential. And just like humans, it is in their genes then to build bigger generations to come. My cats average 14 -16 pounds when grown, and people always comment on how big they are. They are a third and fourth generation now, and just keep getting bigger. Their mama was from a litter that was hand raised across the road after her mama was killed, now she is a tiny thing, with dainty little paws, only 6 lbs full grown and I think because she was hand raised. She had two litters of three, and they are big cats. Everyone is spayed and neutered now except for the 10 year old tom that started all this, he is too feral and too smart to be caught and now I just want him to live out his old age happy and fed. He comes to eat every morning and watches over all the others, a true patriarch! Enjoy your big boy, and don't worry about him eating too much at that age, that can be addressed when he gets to be a year old, and he may never get fat enough for to have to address it, my big kids are sassy but not fat! All the luck!

I have a cat who was 8 pounds at 4 months. He is now three years old and 17 pounds. He was always about double the weight he should have been each month. He isn't fat by any means, just a big, thick boy. His name is Aries, but we don't call him that. As a kitten, he was so tiny I began to call him "pip squeak" which shortened to Pip soon after. That's now his middle name and what he goes by, ironically Pip is far from being a "pip squeak".

Oh wow - I didn't realise how old this thread is, oops. My mistake!

My kitten Jake is just 5 months old. He is 19 inches long not including his tail and weighs 10 lbs... His sister prissy is half the size....I just had him neutered. I know he will only get bigger crazy for a domestic brown tabby
