It's just so tragic. I wonder what happens next.

I just know our vet says that there were a lot of deaths from kidney failure - but in many of them, as older cats, it couldn't necessarily been claimed that it was due to the food if they didn't keep "the proof." So horrible.

I am so glad to see that these people might be brought to justice.

Both Dexter and Sadie suffered horribly from eating tainted pet food.
After intense treatment to preserve their kidney function they survived but with some kidney damage...
we were among with lucky ones.

Sickening! I lucked out as my 3 dogs eat California Natural that is made here in the U.S. with human grade ingredients and Gray One my cat eats special food for cats with Kidney disease and they were not affected either.
I would have been beside myself if I had lost one of my babies.

If nothing else I think people have really learned the importance of feeding really super premium food to their pets. It sucks that it took this to educate people. Because I don't think the government has done anything to keep this from happening again.

I think we all learned NOT to take things at face value... super premium doesnt mean much two of the brands involved were ... I am just glad they did something

When my Stormy died last Dec the Vet asked me about the food. Stormy was drooling and throwing up last April but that was her only symptom. When she was Pts Dec 5th it was Accute Kidney Failure. I had to get Meeko tested after stormy was Pts because she ate the same food. Meeko tested fine. If it was the food why would Meeko test fine. stormy did have alot more treats then Meeko though.

I am so sorry that you lost Stormy.

In my kitties case, apparently size mattered.
My Sadie's kidney damage was worse than Dexter's even though they ate the same food.
I was told that because Dexter is 6 lbs larger than Sadie, size probably worked in his favor.
Also, he immediately vomited the food he ate, Sadie did not.

I fear you will never know why one sweetie was affected by the toxin and the other was not...if that is what it was.

Bottom line.....
No human or animal is safe until the broken system is fixed.

You are right I will never know. Coco my other Cat is on C/D so she never had the bad food. Sasha was a Kitten and I did have the recalled food but she had never had any of it. Her Kitten food wasnt on the list. Its so hard buying food now. I am trying not to get anything that was on the recall list. I know some Cats died from the recalled food in my area at the time. Some were saved. Are your Cats ok now? I do have Stormys Mom and she is almost 16 and has never had Kidney Problems. Are your Cats ok? My Sister has Stormys Brother and he is fine too. I am afraid Coco will get Kidney Problems because her age. She has other problems but is ok otherwise. Stormy was only 5 and bigger then Meeko. Meeko is 7.5 Years old. I have had Cats with Crf and we did all the treatments. I guess taht is what I get for saving ferals. Stripe and Patches were both fereals that I saved and they died from CRF. One was 6 one 11. I even had a Crf chat room back then so i could help others.

My kitties had blood work about a month before they ate the tainted food and their kidney function was within normal limits.
After they ate the toxin, they suffered kidney damage.
With intense treatment they showed real improvement.
They have some mild permanent kidney damage.
