First off- Bonnie, it was an absolute delight meeting you. I had to laugh when you asked me if I was hissy though-how many crazy cat women walk into your business brandishing a cat carrier on any given day?

Your driver was so helpful, as I got out of the truck, he was backing out of the drive. He saw the carrier and pointed "Go that way, you'll find him on the floor with the women." LOL

Thanks for taking him overnight. He is upstairs in the cat room getting used to all the new smells and sounds. He isn't sitting still at the moment, so photos will have to come later, so I am glad you posted your photos of him.

He isn't mychief anymore or mischief which is what his previous owner called him. His name is now Dobby and I am sure he is going to be every bit as delightful as the house elf in Harry Potter.

The other cats are clamoring to see him, but the barrier is up, so all in due time. I sat on the floor and he waltzed out of the carrier as cute as can be and dropped in my lap, turned his belly up and dared me to give him a tummy rub. He is about 2 pounds underweight if she is correct at his age, but he is pretty thin. He isn't eating right now, but he has both canned and dry up there for when he discovers his appetite again.

On that long drive home, he meowed only a few times! Good Kitty!
He will be a wonderful addition to our home and again thank you for alerting me about him.

The poor boy was woefully neglected and starved for attention where he was before. It's no wonder he found his way to your lap for a good tummy rub
. That's probably what he's been wanting all along.

Thank you so much for taking him
I can't wait to see more pictures of him, and progress pictures to show his growth.

Bonnie, Linda, Hissy......you ladies ROCK! I was so mad when I first read that CL ad that you posted Bonnie. Linda, then you wrote that wonderful, thoughtful letter.
I cried at the reply you got. Poor sweet kitty.

Bonnie and Hissy you worked wonders in getting this little guy away from that lady. Your kindest and goodness are beyond words.

Now look at lucky Dobby!!! He is so cute, and what a happy boy.

TCS people are just the BEST

Oh my goodness ...he looks like he could be the brother to little Forrest. From the purrsonality discription they act exactly the same too. Forrest needs full-time attention and love, but is the sweetest mama's boy you could ever imagine.

Hugs to Dobby

PS - Forrest really likes me to put him over my left shoulder, rock back and forth and sing to him. Maybe Dobby would like that too.

Well, none! Other than myself this morning.

Your driver was so helpful, as I got out of the truck, he was backing out of the drive. He saw the carrier and pointed "Go that way, you'll find him on the floor with the women." LOL

He broke some hearts when he left there. He cuddled up to anyone who would hold him.

Love the name!

How amazing is it that this evil kitten from the dark side rolls onto his back for you?

Thank you so much for taking him. I still can't believe we did it! My SIL deserves a big pat on the back for dropping everything on the spur of the moment to pick me up and drive out there for Dobby. She even went in with me - wasn't sure what we would find

I was worried about his weight, too. His bones were just too obvious. So many cats are afraid of strangers at first but not this little guy. He just craves affection. I really don't think he was getting much there, nor much attention. Probably why he got into so much trouble.

Hissy, it was wonderful to meet you and your DH. Someday, I'll get down your way to see all your critters

He does look thin... but you'll fix that in a jiffy now that he's eating. And look at those little razor's he calls claws! Yikes! It's clear he was being neglected and it'd a very good thing he's in a safe, loving home now.

Dobby, such a great name for a kitty who is sure to be loved. Don't give him any socks, though.

He found a great home.

Those points vanished this morning. He had his first clip of the claws here. When I am up there now, I open his door as I work. The other kitties come in, but they are so used to strangers, no one really pays him much mind. He just went into a special area I made for his secure spot, peeped his head out every now and again and hissed. No biggie. No charging, growling or aggression on his part. Suspect that in a few days, I will be able to just open the door and leave it opened. My alpha came up with me this morning and of course he claimed the top of the condo in the cat room- sending Dobby a clear sign of who really is in charge of the cats here. Dobby didn't challenge him, they just stared a bit and Dob was first to break the fix. So he is a submissive male (thank you God) I have enough strong alphas here for awhile!

How did he handle having his nails clipped? I still find it interesting that all the interactions wiht Dobby posted here are not even close to how he was described.

The woman needed a scapegoat to blame for all of her stress and problems, and unfortunately poor Dobby was it
Based on everything she said to me in email, she was utterly convinced that this kitten was evil and the root of all of her problems.

That really is too bad for both her and poor Dobby. I actually find the cats to be a great stress relief when I'm having a bad day.

I didn't meet the woman. Not being in her shoes, I find it difficult to judge, nor do I want to. I do know that Kitty Komakazee Kamp is hard for the most patient of individuals. They climb, they fight, they bite, they play. They are PREDATORS as I tell so many people when they contact me about kitty behavior issues- "You may want a playmate, but they want a preymate." If anything moves, it's prey and that includes you and your feet and hands. If it doesn't move and it is small, it is fair play to see if it might be a predator. If it is big, and it doesn't move, then it is again fair play to mark as theirs. The world they see is pretty limited. The queen if this kitten were outside, would be teaching her litter how to hunt and how to survive. They are programmed for that. Cats are low on the food chain. Height frightens them. If it is bigger than they are, then it can hurt or eat them.

This gal sounds like she has a full plate. She was trying so hard to find a way with this kitten, but she couldn't quite get there. I know she has a child with challenges. Perhaps she thought a kitten would even her home out. I was more alarmed that Dobby had access to plants he was chewing on and destroying. I asked her if the plants were toxic and she said "obviously not, the kitten is still alive." When I explained to her that some toxins are slow-working (like spider plant toxins) she got really quiet.

I guess my thrust is this, don't judge her until you really know the whole story. In my worst day of stress, my cats know to steer clear of me. They sense something is off with me and so they give me my space. But they are older and in tune with me- the kittens don't learn this until they get much older. Probably why the other night I went into the kitchen without turning on a light. It was about midnight. Livingstone was in the kitchen eating and I surprised him because I didn't make much noise. He turned to run but ran into me blocking his escape. He leaped, landed full on my chest, raked my arms, scrambled up my neck over my head and fled! I made my way into the bathroom with blood everywhere. I have puncture marks on my neck, arm, chest and scratches on my face. Did I go off on him because of this behavior? No, it would do no good- cats like horses are flight or fight animals. I scared him, he is still a newcomer here and he didn't know what to do. He was mauled by a feral dog and has many issues. I am not about to compound those issues by yelling at him, slapping him, spraying him with water, or stepping on him. He did what nature intended him to do. He sensed danger and so he fled. Unfortunately, I was in the way of freedom!

Also look at it this way- the woman who owned this kitty knows about this thread. If she comes here to read it out of curiousity, would you rather leave constructive tips to someone dealing with a kitten, or would you rather leave criticisms? How would you feel if this was about you being discussed on another forum? Just something to think about before you post.

Dobby is a delight- but cats here know this is a safe place. I am sure I have "come hither it is safe" messages sprayed the entire length of my home. He doesn't seem on edge, battle ready or even anxious. Clipping his claws was just a matter of being patient, letting him get used to having his paws handled, his toes spread. Treats were offered during the clipping and he let me get rid of those wicked points. I think kitty claws are gorgeous, but I don't necessarily want to see them up close and personal.
