great idea - I've only just caught up with it, but it's going to be good motivation for me.... I'm supposed to be training for the Berlin marathon this year!

Today I managed 1 whole hour on the treadmill!
I'm back up to the speed I was at before my asthma started to bother me from that Lysol being sprayed in the hallways here. I went back on my steroid inhaler and that has helped.

I also did 20 minutes on the arm bike to build up endurance with my arms. And 45 minutes of aquafit. A total of 125 minutes of cardio over a period of about 3 hours.

Tomorrow I go again and my goal is to increase my speed by .2 mph to a pace of 2.1 mph! If I can do 40 minutes at that pace I'll be happy! I also have to do my resistance training tomorrow. No aquafit though. Tomorrow is a holiday here and the pool is closed. I'm kind of bummed about that because I'm finding that I really like aquafit.

First time back in the gym today after a week break due to my dislocated shoulder. I just did cardio today, no weights. 80 minutes on the treadmill and 45 minutes aquafit.

I've been walking at a speed of 2.1 mph and I tried to increase that to 2.3 because the effort I put into 2.1 is "light", but at 2.3 my legs can't move fast enough to keep up with that speed and I fall off the treadmill. I guess I will need to start adding an incline and keeping the pace at 2.1 and see how that goes.

^Falling off treadmills is dangerous. I fell off one last year due to dizziness and had a huge bruise on my ankle and leg.

Do you have any sort of pulse monitor? Maybe look into one of the watch/wrist types? That will help you know if your pace is properly getting your heart rate up.

DH and I took a long walk yesterday - explored a nearby canyon, followed a little creek with tiny frogs in it, and found a little pond full of ducks and got to see a large egret land nearby. The challenge here isn't that I need to loose weight, but that DH needs to. It's harder to get someone else to exercise.

Thanks to the midodrine I didn't get dizzy and was able to make it through over a hour and a half!

Hopefully we both get to do this more often as the weather improves - and next time I'll bring my camera.

I don't see anyone posting in this!!! What happened

I'm still going strong!

I finally made it up to 2.2 on the treadmill with a 2 degree incline and have changed some of my resistance training to actual weight machines or dumb bells because of my shoulder. You get a better body position with weight machines than some of the resistance machines that don't really adjust for proper form.

I'm finding that my balance is improving greatly. I still feel wobbly when I walk without holding onto something like a grocery cart but not nearly as much as I was before. I actually managed 1 lap walking around the track without any holding on. Friday I'm going to do the treadmill still, but also do some walking around the track to get accustomed to walking unaided.

Good job!!

It's ok to induldge so long as you are "aware" and don't make it a regular habit. On Monday I was absolutely craving a donut, so I went and had 3 of them!!!

Today I had a salad and V8 juice, so it's all good

I did my Aquafit class in the deep part of the pool (5 feet), and it was a "Flex" class which involved working with those sponge weights. Talk about an arm workout! The weights make you suspended in the water so you can't touch the ground, so it's all arm work.

I also asked the consultant to introduce another weight machine into my program (for my peck muscles).

I'm sooooo loving the gym!

Thanks for pointing me here from the thread I started on working out.

This challenge is a great idea and I just returned from 3.15 miles and 60 minutes on the treadmill at the gym. Last night I also did Pilates when I got home!

Is anyone still doing this? No one seems to be updating their progress

I had to take 5 weeks off because of the flu and having to look after Chynna for a week, but now I'm back. My membership to the Wellness Centre is up in the middle of May, but I'm going to join on my own and keep going.

In addition to the gym today, I also went for a long walk today. My legs are a bit on the sore side, but it made me feel good

I totally forgot about this! I'm still doing it! I'm actually going to the gym today to sign up. I got a 5 day pass and found out they have monthly passes for $75! I can finally start playing raquetball again! Along with a pool, weights, cardio, basketball court and classes! I haven't dropped below 300 yet but have lost 15 lbs since December!

You might try Weight Watchers...they don't push their own food on you. You can eat normal food. It is a great program.

I'm really late getting into this, but I decided a few days ago (see post) that I was going to get a pair of rollerskates. The weather here is just glorious - cool, but beautiful nonetheless - and it's a great activity for me to do alone while Rune is singing or we can go together. I've started walking more too and while I haven't really lost any weight whatsoever, I feel a bit better in myself.

I've started changing my diet around some. I had a class Tuesday about the lap band and they gave us a big binder with all sorts of nutritional information. I'm going to start getting myself going on the low fat, low carb, high protein diet that I'll need to be on long term with the band. Because of my bad back I'm going to look into buying a recumbent (is that how it's spelled?) exercise bike.

Great thread idea! I missed it first time round.
I've been wanting to get into shape more for a while now, and finally started swimming again this week. Starting at 50 laps every time, I'm going to build it up slowly. Really enjoying it so far. Swimming is the only exercise I've ever really gotten into. I just hate going to the gym so I need to look at other options.
The sparkpeople link was interesting.

Let's make 2008 the year we get our bodies moving and more active.

At the beginning of January I started into a physical rehab program at one of the Wellness Centres where I live. When I first got there I could bearly even do 10 minutes on a treadmill at a slow walk. At the 10 minute mark I was panting and puffing and my pulse was nearly 140 bpm! One month later I've nearly doubled my pace and have increased my time by 5! Plus have added in other activities such as resistance and aquafit.

The results after a month?

1. My mood has improved.
2. I've lost 11 pounds as of January 25th.
3. I sleep better at night
4. I have more energy
5. My self esteem has improved. My 11 pounds is not visibly noticable, but I know about it and I feel "thinner" which motivates me even more to keep going.
6. My blood pressure is lower
7. I'm feeling more limber and not as stiff, because my muscles are slowly lengthening.

So here is my challenge to everyone here.

Let's all make it our mission to get up off the couch and away from the computer more often in order to get ourselves more active and fit.

Everyday we each need to do some form of exercise for 1 full hour!

For example: walking, biking, treadmill, running, aerobics, tennis, badminton, basketball, skating, skiing, weights, yoga, pilates, martial arts ... anything that gets your heart pumping and your body moving.

Remember, that we are all at different fitness and health levels, so work with your body. This isn't a race as to who can do the most or the best. So don't worry if one person can run 20 miles every day and all you can do is walk around the block once.

After you are done your activity, come here to this thread and let us know about it. So bookmark this thread so you can easily find it.

Remember, you are on the honour system so if you "cheat" and say that you did something but didn't, you are only cheating yourself.

If you want, you can add your starting weight and post your progress. I recommend not weighing yourself daily because numbers go up and down. Weigh once per month if you want to keep track of your weight.

Since weight loss is a huge necessity for me and it's one of my goals, I will post my last weight and post as I see progress.

January 25, 2008: 364.8 pounds = 165.47 kilograms.

My target weight is 160 pounds = 72.57 kilograms.

I have to lose more than 1/2 of my current body weight.

So come on TCS! We can do it! Who knows, by the end of the year our combined weight loss could be in the several hundred pound range! Imagine how much bacon fat that is!!!
As someone that works in a gym,i totally agree,it doesn't take a lot of effort really to get fit,all i can say to you is great job and keep up the good work

I'm really not doing much fitness, except I'm wearing my pedometer and recording my steps. Then I will try and get more steps in every day. I've been on Weight Watchers and lost almost 27 pounds, so that helps a lot. But I'm sure to get to my goal, the activity will have to go up at some point!

I did the elliptical for 25 minutes today, and did an ab workout for 15. With my diet plan, hopefully I can lose another lb or 2 this week.

I havent done anything fitness wise, i was working 16 hours a day and staning for about 10 of it, my legs go so swelled up and had muscle pain for a month.

and last night i stuffed my self wonderfully in a restaurant.. screw diets!

I am not so worried about being fit while being in germany because we have to walk everywhere and catch public transport.

When im in australia though i will need to stay fit because there i wouldnt be excersizing at all!

So how is everyone doing with this?!

I'm still at itm 3 or 4 times per week.

I've got an injured shoulder and neck right now so I'm not doing any weights or resistance training, just cardio (treadmill and aquafit). Plus I've been swimming (without my face in the water) 20 widths of the pool each time I go too.
