Just wanted to quickly introduce myself. As of Thursday, 31st of January, my husband and I have three new flatmates - three little kittens!
These kittens were semi-feral kittens that roamed new our small cottage here in Ireland. We live on a quiet little lane (no cars!) so for the past few months we had seen them hanging out. They were tiny when we first saw them, so we started leaving out bits of food and they kind of adopted us! We had decided that we were going to try and adopt them for good, but things kept getting in the way (Christmas travel, namely - I am American and my husband is British). Anyway, on Thursday it was a particularly cold night, so the kittens scampered in and they haven't looked back! They are becoming more and more bold with every passing day, but they are very well-behaved - no destruction of the house, no mewing to get out or clawing at doors. They learned to use a litter box like little champs and they are loving all the free food, warm place to sleep and lots of play.
They all have their own personalities - which we are learning. My husband has had cats his entire life, but this is my first time (we had dogs), so it has been so fun, exciting and even a bit scary for me. This site has been a big help in relieving some of my concerns and I am sure it will help in the future as other issues arrive.
We have found a local vet and he is very supportive of us taking on the kittens (he himself has a semi-feral who lives at his practice). We were worried as to how they would adjust, but Conor, Paddington and Niamh seem like very happy kittens indeed!
