Orrrrrrrr, you could offer them citizenship and collect taxes for Medicare and Medicaid from them. Then, they'd pay into the system just like everyone else.
But, that is neither here nor there, I suppose.
And Dragonaria, your scenario is neither here nor there either. It's not a question of how I feel about my relatives...some of whom are dangerously obese, it's true...it's a question of PREVENTING morbid obesity from happening, therefore increasing the public health. My relatives being obese doesn't make me rage at them, it doesn't make me love them any les, but I wish they weren't obese, for their own sake and the sake of everyone. Our choices generally affect everyone. The personal, as they say, is political.
I think we can all agree on the following: Obesity is NOT healthy. It is NOT ok. It presents a huge health risk to the obese person, not to mention the ripple effect if has on the rest of the people, and ALL people deserve all of the preventive care and education and access to healthful foods and room to make healthful lifestyle choices.
The bill in question is not a good way to achieve this. The bill in question is dumb, because, as can be seen in this thread, people miss the point and take it personally. The point is that people need a way to take better care of themselves, period. We need to figure out that that is.
