There's something regal about Kitten 1. I like Leo for him.

If you want to do more sun names, Apollo might also be good for him. Or Ray

Aw, you chose Orion for the name of kitten #1? I like that name. I can find that constellation every time I look up in the sky!

I've always loved the name, but have never used it for any animal. I had never really tried to find that constellation either, but Thursday night (the night the kittens were born) it was a really clear night and I was looking up at the stars. When I came back inside I told John that a group of stars had really struck me so I looked it up and it turns out that it was Orion that I was seeing. So it really just seemed to fit and be the perfect name for the little guy!

Day 7

One week old already! Eyes aren't open yet of course, but I can tell that they will be soon. I think Joey will be the first to open his eyes, but I'll probably be wrong! No outside pictures today, it got cold again. And when I take individual pictures inside they turn out too bright or too blurry... if anyone has any tips on how to get decent indoor pictures, I'd be very grateful!

Still adorable!

For the pics, since their eyes are not open yet, you might want to try with a flash. If you take a picture close to them, you want the ISO to be low (like 80) and the opening to be small. If you have a macro mode, it will help get a better definition too. I know that pics with flashes are not the best ones, but when there's no good light, we often have no choice. Of course, when babies open their eyes, I guess you'll have to find a way without flash! By the way, I'm not sure about the terms used in english for "opening" and "macro" (I'm french), so if anybody could tranlsate, I would be glad...

Macro is still macro... I think by opening you mean aperture or f-stop. I thought ISO was for film cameras only?

Are you using flash inside? Is that why they are too bright? If you can try to find good indoor light so you don't have to use flash. The blurry is probably from camera shake. Not much you can do there short of a tripod or setting the camera on some solid surface like a counter or table.

They are so cute and tiny! I love watching them grow up... like vicariously having kittens myself.

Digital SLRs also have an ISO sensitivity for the sensor. Much easier to change than film.

Aww... look at little Rufus! He is a little Rosie in the making always "yelling" at the camera.
