My cat will only play with white mice. My Grandmother's cats will only play with gray mice. It works out nicely because then we can buy one bag and split it. LOL.

Ha! I really need to get some more of those furrie mice for my cats. But with Tage now adays, I'm afraid of him eating it. As he trys to litterally kill and eat any toy that has things like feathers on it. He gets really freaky and acts like a darn feral!

Isha and Asim grew up having those mousey toys, the tail was always the first to go, but that's ok. The prefered the white one, maybe they can see it better? Stands out more, yeah know?
Back when Isha was a kitten, she'd roam the house with me looking for her mousie, meowing about it in discontent. When I would find it I'd said "Isha, your moousssieeee!!" And she would come halling butt through the house to get it! hee hee.

Interesting! My Harry prefers red colored toys. I wonder if it has something to do with their vision. Or maybe, like us, they have favorite colors!

Leo would only play with red mice. He had a favorite that he would hide from the other cats. He would put it in the toy basket at night. We knew he wanted to got to bed when he put his mousie away.

When I first read this, I thought you go to the pet store and buy a bag of live mice!!!

Don't worry about me, my cold is interrupting my mental processing ability!

IN LIVING COLOR

Do cats see in color? Not as well as we do. It is not possible to see well in the dark and have excellent color vision. However, cats do not see everything in shades of gray. Cats can be trained to distinguish between some colors, such as blue and green. It just seems that they have little interest in doing so!

Part of the reason cats see better at night than humans is that they have more rods and fewer cones in their eyes than we do. However, since cones are the structures that enable mammals to see color, cats do not see color as well as we do.

Look at the two pictures below to see the difference between how a cat might see color and how most humans see color.

While no one can know exactly how a cat sees color, one thing all researchers agree on is that cats definitely do not see color the same way we do. Cats probably see things somewhat like a person who is red/green color-blind. Reds appear dark, and greens appear somewhat lighter and duller.

thanks for the info! i thought they could only see shade variations, but i never knew for sure.

seems funny that they make cat toys so colorful when they could just be in white and grey and the cats would be just as happy.

i guess it just goes to show they are amrketing the toys at people.
(not that cats don't have fun with them.)
