State of the Union address - was Bush OK?

I watched the state of the union address the other night. IMO, nothing remarkable about what was said. Much of it was a repeat of previous speeches. I didn't expect a lot from a lame duck president in his last year. Not bashing here, I would expect that from any president.

The one thing that really struck me as odd:

Bush looked like he was either drunk or on medication. First sentence out of his mouth that thought crossed my mind. Three sentences into it my DH made the same comment. After the speech we talked to friends who made the same observation. People in the office have been making the same comments. I've heard this from at least a dozen people now. Party alliance was mixed so this is not a "liberal" observation.

Did anyone else notice anything odd about him?

ETA: this is not intended to start a Bush bash thread. I'm just honestly curious if others saw this also.

he looked ok to me. i did however think nancy pelosi was quite rude! she sat in the back of him just reading away and ignoring him and sometimes making rude facial expressions. i know she dislikes him- but is that really necessary when you know you are being filmed during his speech? even if she dislikes him she could at least show a little respect for the president of the country. i do not like her at all i thought her behavior was quite rude.

I listened to the speech over the radio so I didn't get to see what Mr. Bush looked like during the speech. Over the radio he sounded fine to me.

I would have kicked the tv if I saw Pelosi doing that. I think she's a jack***. Everytime she speaks I hear nothing but contempt and smugness in her voice.

In all fairness, this is also cold and flu season. I'm sure most of us have been less than 100% lately.

Quite right! Even Presidents get the flu. Those darn little flu bugs are nothing if not "equal opportunity"

That's why everyone is adding the "on meds". Yup, cold medicine can get you a little wacky.

I also noticed that and thought it a bit odd. She was reading his speech which was pre-printed up for the attendees. I didn't realize that until the end when a lot of people asked him to autograph their copy on his way out. I sit in a lot of business meetings where printed material is passed out to the attendees and most people will read ahead. So in hindsite, this was quite normal.

I really like his speech and thought he looked and sounded great.
I loved how firm he was. Big surprise, huh?

I thought Bush was okay. Nothing really new. I didn't see anything wrong with Pelosi reading the text of the speech. They also showed Ted Kennedy reading as Bush was talking. As the Democrats had thier chance after the state of the union speech to retort it made sense to me they would want to make sure they knew what Bush was saying. I wish I had the text. I would have been reading too. The constant interuptions to clap and stand was driving me crazy. I wish they would just let him speak without the interuptions.
