Hi!
In mid-June 2007, a feral Mama cat and her three tiny kittens appeared in our yard. We had recently lost our Moocher (who was owned by a neighbor two houses down but preferred to live on our porch) and were considering getting a new kitty (or one that would officially be ours). I guess the old saying is true, "be careful what you wish for!!" When the cat family arrived I immediately fed them and tried to make friends. They weren't having it! The three kittens did slowly start to come around, but not Mama. We did finally decide to trap Mama and take her in for spay/shots. However, she tested positive for FIV. Because she went to the vet under an SPCA feral program, with a positive FIV test she had to be put down. RIP Mama. I've had success in taming the three kittens (now 9-months, we think) - an orange tabby male named Sandy, a peach tabby male named Winky, and a gray and multi female named Faylene. Each has been neutered/spayed and vaccinated - and have all been negative for FIV! YEAH! They are truly my babies as they've not allowed anyone else to pet them thus far. We also "share custody" with a neighbor of a huge gray male, Brillo. He's the suspected father ("baby daddy") of my three babes. He came to the neighborhood a few years ago with a family a block over - they moved, but forgot to pack him! He splits his time willingly between the two homes (I guess he's still deciding which place is the best!) All four cats get along well - they're one big happy cat family! Sandy, Winky, and Faylene spend their days playing, eating, playing, sleeping, and did I mention playing! Brillo likes to sleep, "hunt", sleep, eat, and sleep! And he keeps everyone in order!
I'm glad to be a part of TCS!
