How many of us have seen the film Medicine Man starring Sean Connery and Lorraine Bracco where Connery's character finds a cure for cancer and loses it?
A little over two years ago I lost a cousin to melanoma. She died about nine months after she was diagnosed, the positioning and size of the tumor made surgery to try and remove it close to impossible.
During this time I started reading a book a friend let me borrow that I never got a chance to finish. The book was about the vitamin B17 and a drug made from it called laetrile. In the book I remember reading something about cancer being non-existent in peoples who have diets in foods that contain this vitamin.
Laetrile is banned by the FDA in the US but is used in many countries as a cancer treatment. Admittedly, I don't know a lot about it. The proponents of laetrile say that the FDA and pharmaceutical companies won't allow laetrile to be used in the US because of the millions (maybe billions) of dollars that are made from the current drugs used to fight cancer. The FDA and others call laetrile quackery and say that it is a farce. As a result it's hard to find unbiased information.
I was wondering if any of you have heard of this and know anything about it?
