Kitty was supposed to be having his dental today and I took him in at 8:30 and made sure they knew I wanted his blood done first as he`s never had it done since I`ve had him and they give you the option.

The vet rang me an hour and a half later to say I could go and pick him up as they wouldn`t be doing him today
They took his blood and he has raised protien and liver enzymes so he has to have a week of anti-biotics and be re-tested next week.

He said it could be inflammation in his mouth causing it but if it isn`t down next week he will have to have more blood tests.

Is that normal for an infection to effect the liver enzyme and protien? I don`t know the exact figures as they don`t give them out as routine here. What else could cause that?

( Whoops! Did a 7 instead of & in title )

i don't know the answers to your worries, but i would have thought the vet would have said if it was a cause for real concern.

i hope the antibiotics bring down his levels and he is a well kitty again soon.

Infection can cause both to be raised, so a dental infection is a likely possibility. The liver value might be high if Kitty hasn't been eating much (which can happen if their mouth is painful) and the protein value can be high from dehydration as well as inflammation.

Ah, that`s interesting. Thank you!

He`s been eating normally apart from the fast last night but I haven`t seen him drink much until we got home today. Nearly half a bowl!. He`s seemed well in himself until today, now he`s feeling sorry for himself but my sister said one of her cats acts like this for a day or two after having blood taken.

When we went in november the vet said he`d lost a tooth and they wouldn`t know if any bits were still in there till they put him under and he`d be ok for a few months. I guess it could be shards of tooth still in there
