I have a 14+ year-old male cat with fiv, diabetes, and hyperthyroid disease. He stopped cleaning himself about 8 months ago. He is otherwise stable on insulin and other meds. Does anyone know how to get him to groom again?

he is probably just feeling really puny right now and doesn't have the energy or inclination to groom. I would just start daily grooming sessions with him. You can also try sprinkling a little bit of catnip into his fur to see if that stimulates it- but verylittle don't over-do.

Is there a way for humans to mimic how a cat would groom? Not on yourself, but on the cat? I know cats will groom each other, and maybe someone here knows of a way to mimic that to hopefully jump start his urge to groom himself?
