Hello everyone! I wanted to stop in and introduce myself and Nanuk, my Cat. I am just like my screen handle says a petstorejunkie, and have many different animals including dogs, reptiles, horses, donkeys, and salt water fish.. it's a zoo over here!! I live in a log cabin in the country with a wonderful loft with a glassed in sun pod (it looks like an escape pod on the side of the house, the size of a twin bed, with glass on all sides). Nanuk likes to hang with me and pretend he is in the trees. I have worked in the animal care industry for about 12 years now, with experience both on veterinary (in clinic, and sales distribution), grooming, petstores, and currently in holistic pet foods
But enough about me, the cool one is Nanuk! i got him about a week and a half ago. the search for the perfect cat has been ongoing for at least 6 months, and finally i found him, far away from my home. I was out of town on business and he was up for adoption in a petstore. he is so charming. He's a DLH that has the bone to maybe be part maine coon, but his tail isnt as impressive. he's a medium buff color with head markings alot like a snow shoe or rag doll, and has gorgeous icy blue eyes. We actually kind of match! We are both blonde haired with blue eyes
He's 7 years old and fat, ahem 15.8lbs bcs of 7.5<working on that> and despite his good looks, he had been sitting in the adoption center for over two weeks! many passed him by because of his age (you and I both know 7 isnt old for a cat, especially if they are well taken care of). But he has a forever home now, and I am really glad he was there for me to adopt.
the 5 hour car ride was a bit much for him, but he was well behaved despite the nausea and drooling. As long as he was in my lap or on the floor he was fine, but wanted no part of the cat carrier. Fortunately there was someone else driving, so i could devote all attention to him. Two days later he was blowing snot bubbles and really lethargic (ruh roh, URI) so off to the vet we go. He's still on his amoxi and triple with dex drops for his nose, but now is feeling much much better. Although his congestion is 80% gone, he still insists on having fancy feast before he'll touch his food (pleh, i feel like a bad mommy feeding that garbage). He'll eat the good dry food if i mix them now.
Now that his fever is down and he's feeling better, he's actually taken a liking to the two dog residents as well. Paddy, a 14mo jack russel x corgi is very intrigued by Nanuk, and as long as Paddy isnt in JRT mode they get along swimmingly. Shelby, a 7 year old border collie, adores cats and those two hit it off right away. Probably because Shelby understands how to properly and respectfully approach a cat.
Hubby calls Nanuk "Garfield" because he'd prefer to walk, not run, and is a plop into your lap and stay there kind of kitty. He is definately a good fit for me. I always wanted a cat that would actually hang out with you.
He loves my graduated metal comb, in fact he'll brush himself if i hold it. And he's been introduced to the furminator as well, and thinks that is some sort of kitty endorphine machine.
That's all i can think of at the moment, just wanted to say HI EVERYONE, glad to be here
