Hey everyone. The reason I joined this forum is because I noticed my kitten (Ramses) has this obsession with moving his water bowl. Its a water bowl that holds a liter or so of water. I have it placed on a mat to keep it all in one place but he always move it off (spilling water as he does it) and even if I put it on the rug, he still pushes it around. He spills most of the water as he does it and doesn't seem to care. Anyone know why he could be doing this? Should I go out and get him another water bowl?? I like this water bowl because than I know that he won't run out while I'm not home.

He's probably playing with it, he's a kitten it's just what they do.

You could try an elevated water bowl or heavier bowl. Usually rubber underneath stops the bowl from moving.

They also have those cat water fountains, water constantly comes out of them but doesnt fill up deep like regular water bowls.

He'll probably grow out of this.

I thought about those cat water fountains but I heard that the noise is loud and sometimes scares kittens. I will try and make it so that he can not move it and hopefully he stops. I just hate that I keep having the wet floor and than I'm worried that he isn't drinking enough. I feel he has enough toys so I'm not gonna go out and buy him more (just yet haha). Thanks for your advice

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
I'd still consider a water fountain. He doesn't seem scared of water!

We bought both a petmate and a drinkwell when our kittens were kittens. They didn't like the petmate (water runs down a ramp) - but they loved the drinkwell (water pours out a spout like a waterfall).

Maybe he likes "moving water" and that's why he pushes it around!

I don't know if your water-spilling cat will ever grow out of it; my Artemis is 3.5 yrs old and still loves to tip over her water (and paw her food out of her food bowl).

I keep meaning to buy a fountain, but I just have lots of water bowls around, so that even if she spills two she still has water to drink.

I bought the fountain at petco.com (i was able to save $9 due to a 10% off thing and $5 petco bucks that i didn't know i had
) So i ended up not paying for tax or shipping
This week he will get a new water bowl/fountain and hopefully that will be the end of a wet rug?
hahah And he is getting a new cat tree because the one I got him for christmas (from petco), broke and Petco agreed to send me out a new one free of charge, and I can do whatever I want with the old one
Petco is a awesome store, I spoil Ramses alot. hahah

Thanks everyone for your advice!!

Hey guys. I got the fountain in the mail today and set it up right away. He has tried to drink from it a tiny bit, but I think because it makes noise and the fountain part. But if he gets thirsty enough, he should be drinking from it. I keep his food and water in my room because he's in there most of the time, so I'm gonna have to turn it off tonight otherwise the fountain part is gonna drive me nuts hahahha But thanks for the suggestions. I hope he wont start pushing this around, but maybe he just likes to feel the water on his paws.
