Hi everyone here, I just picked up my new cat on Saturday last week and he is the most amazing of the cats that I have had to date. There have been cats living with me for as long as I can remember

I picked up this cat from the local Kitten Rescue
. He picked me, as I am sure you are all aware, I did NOT pick him. Funny as it sounds, I had been to the website, but hadn't noticed that he happened to be the featured cat of the week. LOL. He is awesome.

So, today my girlfriend noticed that he has a tattoo in his ear that reads '278'. I hadn't noticed it before and we plan to ask the Kitten Rescue where we got him, but how often do people really tattoo their pet cat? There have been at least 5 that have lived with me since I was a child and not one had ever been tattooed.

Anyway, I am also looking to try to identify my cat by breed or general cat terms as I am not sure what kind of cat he may be. I thought that I would enclose some pictures of him and perhaps some kind soul with a much better knowledge of cats could hook me up with some sort of information on this type of cat. He is slightly cross-eyed which is kind of cute and has brilliant emerald green eyes.

So, without further adieu, I present "Vincent":

Welcome!

Many rescue organisations will tattoo a cat's ear when they have neutered or spayed it, this is so that if it ends up back at a shelter it isn't put under anaesthetic a second time, or if it is feral and ends up being trapped to be neutered it can be released without putting it through the additional stress of another vet visit. Another alternative is ear-tipping, where a tiny bit of the tip of the ear is removed. Some will tattoo the incision scar itself so that it is easily visible, but this isn't as immediately obvious when there's fur grown back - but it does stop a vet making an unnecessary incision if the cat ends up back in the rescue system.

Hello & welcome to tcs. Your kitty is lovely, I like the fluffy ones best. We had a dog from a shelter many years ago. He had a tatoo in his ear & we didn't even know until he had passed on.

Wow, he is breathtaking! His name is perfect, it reminds me of "Starry, Starry Night." the song OR the painting...
