my mom always made them. Thaw them first, then boil them, not too long, just until they are soft and hot. Then she would put them in a frying pan with a tiny bit of brown sugar and possibly some onion and fry them up a little. I LOVE them. There is a brand called Sophies she gets from an Italian deli up here and they have sour kraut in them. I HATE sour kraut but for some reason they are excellent in these pierogies.

I feel like boiling them until they float was what I was told..does that make sense?

I always boil them frozen, when they all float to the top, I take them out with a sloted spoon, and add them to onions, that have been browning in butter. I just fry them until they start to get brown, they are also good if you cook them with bacon and onions

I just fry them until they brown on both sides. Once they get to be about the colour of this text they are usually ready. And it doesn't matter whether you fry them in oil or butter. Most oils are better for you but butter adds a better taste.

That is what I do to. We usually fry them with onions and bacon.

If you read the box of frozen pierogies, they suggest 2 ways to cook them: Put them in boiling water and cook them for a couple of minutes after they float. Optionally, you can then quickly brown them in butter. The other way is just to brown them in butter for about 4 minutes per side. But all of this depends on the thickness of the dough - I'm sure the pre-made frozen ones aren't the same dough consistency of the home made ones.

I don't use onions or anything else when I brown them in butter. It takes away from the good flavor inside.

Home made pierogies are awesome!!!!!

I bought the frozen ones a few times (pierogies are very popular around here) and served them with sour cream, corn, and a green salad. But a couple of years ago I bought a bag and there was a squashed knat on one of them and it completely ruined my appetite for pierogies.

Homemade sounds good though.

We've always fried them in butter. I don't like mine too crispy; but just till they get a little crisp on the outside. My Mom and I are going to try my Great Grandma's recipe for them soon. I also have a recipe my other Grandmother got from a neighbor of hers growing up.

I can't stand the boxed ones around here. We always get them when we go home from the Polish market. Along with their Kielbasa! Oh that's heaven!

My husband actually made homemade pierogies once. He started about 9 in the morning and didn't finish until about 6 in the evening. He made about 100 of them. If anyone ever gives you homemade pierogies, appreciate every last nibble of them!

I've been making homemade pierogies for 45 years now.  My daughter also makes them.   I make 200 to 300 at a time.   I make them and my husband boils and packs them for the freezer.  When we're ready to use them we put the frozen pierogies in boiling water and when they come to the top we cook them for about five minutes and then fry them in butter.  I have also fried them in olive oil and they were very good but butter is better.  I have also boiled them and then put them in a roasting pan in the oven with melted butter turning once if a while until browned.  Easier way for a crowd but we prefer them browned in a frying pan.
