Today I adopted a new kitty from the local shelter. After getting her home and relaxed away from my other two cats I was able to play with her and see her really moving around, something not easy to do at the shelter do to limited space and a lot of animals.

The first thing I noticed was her back end seemed to have a side to side wobble when she walked or chased a toy around. When I could get a look at her standing still her back feet seemed to be turned outward, the left foot more than the right. It is not so extreme that you notice without knowing to look for it but they do appear to be turned out. I checked my other two cats to see how they walk and there was a definate difference plus the wobble is noticeable.

I had already scheduled her to see my vet tomorrow to get her checked out by someone other than the shelter staff so I will definitely bring it up with him. My question for those that may have experience with this is if they are turned out will there be any long term problems that will come about because of it? I have no problem keeping her even though she may have the problem I am just curious what long term problems there might be.

It could have occured before birth - maybe she was squished wrong or the legs/feets were stepped on when born.

Some cats are "cow-hocked" where the bend in the leg is pointing towards each other and the feet are pointed outward. Most times it doesn't really affect the way they walk or jump.

Your description matched her pretty good. The picture I had in the original post didn't really show the problem well. The more I watched her moving around her back legs do pretty much touch at the bend and above it but then below the bend the feet take a noticeable turn outward.

Thanks
