Baptist Church picketing Heath Ledger's funeral

This is disgusting.

I swear Fundamentalist Christians are the most bigoted group of people. They have issues with homosexuality? Fine, whatever. But to be so disrespectful of a human life, to picket the FUNERAL of someone (not to mention someone who ISN'T even a homosexual, but just played one in a movie) is so wrong. It makes me sick.

well, I'm not going to be able to open that website at work and that alone is disgusting I thought God "loved" everyone, hate the sinner and not the sin and all that double-speak

But just what are the hoping to accomplish by picketing? it won't undo the movie

Ahhhh... Good Old Westboro Baptist Church.

If I were his family I'd make sure that the funeral is held on private grounds and the second a protester crossed the line I'd sue for a billion dollars for emotional distress.

Looks like the Angels of Peace may have to step in.

Are they known for that sort of thing? I'd hope that it's just one rogue "church", and not something lots of anti-gay groups are doing!
Surely there will be bodyguards/security, considering the celebrities who are likely to attend the funeral? There are times when I think giving everyone the right to free speech is inappropriate; this is one of them.

They are the ones who picket army funerals, and think soldiers die because God hates homosexuals. Or something.

And I think you are very bigoted against fundamentalist Christians. This is ONE church for crying out loud. So paint every fundamentalist Christian with the same brush?
This is one issue that upsets me. I'm not saying that I hate Christians (I am not one) but I find most of them to be hypocrites. What about Love Thy Neighbor and all that stuff. He wasn't even gay he just portrayed a gay character. Let the man rest in peace!
Is this the same group of losers that protest at the funerals of our service people? A butt kicking would do those people some good.

Isn't that what's going on in this thread, http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=155239
where a couple of posters are equating Muslims with jihadists?

Here is a link that doesn't open in PDF format.

They are being totally disrespectful and there should be a law against what they do.

They are known for it. In fact, I'm not all that shocked they decided to show up. It's getting to be that you can kind of count on them just like you can count on rats when you let your garbage pile up.

In no way does this church show the feelings of every single Christian out there. They aren't all this whacked.
With people like that, I can see why some are so against religion, etc. But that doesn't mean ALL Christians are like that.

God/Jesus doesn't (and never will) hate the sinner....but they hate the sin. Big difference.

I was referring to the name of the website in Sarah's original post, did you see what it ws called? if not PM me. This church obviously believes God is very capable of hate to a specific group

The people of the Westboro Baptist Church do not represent all of Christianity. They are an embarrassment.
IMO, I've always thought of this group of people in this specific church were a hate group that had usurped some Biblical text to justify themselves. I've never really thought of them like a "church".

The Bible also says Judge not, less you be judged. According to their beliefs Westboro Baptist Church will get what is coming to them..

There are always a group of people who will give people a bad name. It sucks.

Well said. Often it is the followers, not the religion itself that are the problem. You'll get the over-zealous and the hypocrites which give the rest the bad name. Our daughter is involved with a boy who is Baptist right now and his mother refuses to meet her because we are Catholic (non-practicing but nevertheless Catholic). She feels our daughter is not a "good Christian" and therefore not good for her son. I, on the other hand, think he is a wonderful young man and would be proud to call him son even if he isn't Catholic. So, in this case, I would consider his mother to be hypocritical, judgmental and not a very good example of what I consider a Christian to be.

If they ever decide to marry, I can't wait to meet her - it should be worth videotaping since I didn't come by the name of Yosemite without earning it.

The fact that they have also made a statement that he is now burning in hell??

No wonder the world is so against religion sometimes, its hard not to be when you have morons like this spouting their crap all over the place.

BINGO.

Equating this group to all Christians would be like saying all white people are members of the KKK.
Those lot make me sick!!
There are many religions that take things out of context and twist it to suit their "beliefs" - the Bible warns of the false teachers/churches.
I think that any group who protests ANY funeral is sick, the dude is already dead, they should have had the guts to protest while he was alive. this only disrespects the family, it doesnt hurt him any. As for the protestors of the service men, i dont see any protesters out there standing in front of the service men as bullets rain down protesting. They wait until they are safe on the soil that was protected by the blood of that man in the ground to protest and have their freedom of speach, which was also bought by the blood of service men who were laid to rest.

These people are only cowards, cold blooded ruthless POS cowards to protest anyones funeral.

Not all christians are hypocrites. I am a proud christian, think what you want of me, but i stand for what i believe in. DO YOU?

Right on!! Morons seem to collect en masse lately.

Honestly, I think we wait for one of them to die & picket their funeral!

"TheCatSite.com Forums is dedicated to cat care & welfare. We are a worldwide forum and therefore a mix of different cultures, races and religions; there is always room for different opinions, however, intolerance, bigotry, and religious ridicule will not be tolerated "

just thought it seemed to work here also lol.

anyway they should have been protesting that the movie sucked.(of granted i could not watch it, only made it about half way in)

they way i see it, they should take the member of the WBC church and lock them up in mental ward some place

I wouldn't even call these people a church. It is one family and maybe a few friends. Their 'congregation' isn't that big. I think they have gotten their 15 minutes and then some. I wish they were against the law. They are beneath contempt.
I'd call it more of a cult.

I loved the film, my only doubts were the lead actors attractiveness, compared to that of real-life cowboys, but I was hardly going to complain.
The book is beautiful.
What I don't get (well, I don't get a lot of things about this anyhow) but what really throws me for a loop is the thought that someone playing the role of a gay person in a movie should go to hell. Is that like saying that if someone plays a priest or something like that, they should go to heaven?

A little resesarch online will give you lots of info on these idiots. And help you understand that no one in the rest of organized religion gives them the time of day.
