What is sulfadimet? We took Spunky over to the vet tonight. He has been hiding for 24 hours for idk what reason. Apparently he messed himself. They had to shave his bottom and they took a sample. He doesn't have any blockages but his bottom is raw. We have a cream for that too.

From what I've heard about it, it's an antibiotic used to treat coccidia sometimes. You have to make sure they drink lots of water because it can sometimes cause crystals in their urine.

My vet tech told me about it when telling me about one of their rescued office kitties.

Thanks! Good thing he loves water. He had a full blood panel done also since he is really overweight. He is 18lbs 1oz. LoL Poor boy went through a lot today. We think the vacuum scared him while he was using the pan yesterday and then I had to pill his Mother. Then today he had a rectal, shots and blood drawn. He is back under the bed again.

It's a sulfonamide drug, full name sulfadimethoxine - not an antibiotic of the kind that usually comes to mind like penicillin. It works better than the standard antibiotics for things like coccidia. Did the vet discuss possible side effects with you? That is the downside of using that class of drug - make sure that your cat stays well hydrated, as has been mentioned it can cause the urine to become concentrated. It's not very likely to happen, but if your cat develops sore looking eyes or pale gums, phone the vet immediately- don't worry unduly though (all drugs have potential side effects), just something to keep an eye on.

I hope your kitty feels better soon
