Bea's beautiful. Tell her that, from us, OK?

If you're worried about furniture or cat fights, I don't see why you can't just provide scratching posts, clip their nails, use soft paws, use furniture covers, use cat repellent sprays, train with water or noise to stay away from furniture, keep expensive stuff in a cat free room, etc. etc... I mean, even if it had no long-term side effects it would still be completely unnecessary surgery--a sore cat and a flat wallet when you don't need either. There's just no sense to it.

Many many more for the beautiful miss Bea...may she have a quick recovery and comfort for the rest of her days.

I'm so glad she's going to a good home after. I hope that eventually she feels like

I had a cat friend that thought that way - she'd rather the cat be put to sleep then to be declawed. I was never that extreme. I'm totally against declawing but I tell people that if you've tried everything else to train the cat (nail clipping, treehouses, scratching posts, sticky paper, or Soft Paws) and the cat still has a problem and you do declaw it THEN you should be willing to keep the cat the rest of its life no matter what problems it may have in peeing in other places, biting, hiding, etc.

The cat didn't have those issues before the declaw, so you are responsible for any outcome of the declawing.

I'd hate to see this thread locked because people are too distracted by the "right or wrong" of it.

You can debate until you are blue in the face....the end result is this thread will be locked. I don't want it locked because it ended up being another pointless declawing debate.

This is an anti-declawing site. You are entitled to your opinion, me to mine, someone else to theirs.

This is about Bea. She begs you not to declaw. She's also in need of ...she's going to be in a lot of pain for a while now. Just think of her, OK?

This is the TCS official stance on declawing:

3. This website considers declawing a drastic way to curb cat behavior. A painful ordeal for your kitty we would suggest that declawing never be considered for any behavioral issue. Health issues are entirely different. It is up to you as a responsible pet owner to explore all the different options available instead of declawing. Your cat is dependant on you to make wise choices for her, and not put her into any more stress or discomfort. Please be a responsible pet owner and research this subject thoroughly. Understand that if you are pro-declaw in your posts, you will encounter opposition. Please learn more about alternatives for declawing here in our forums as well as on our website itself. Declaw - More than Just a Manicure. Hopefully those of you with claw-related problems will find solutions by spending time in our Behavior Forum.
This is not the IMO forum. You are more than welcome to start a thread about declawing there, but I can guarantee you that if the attacks start to get personal as they are here, the thread will get closed.

I realize some members are not against declaw, but TCS officially is. It is clearly stated in the Forum Rules, which you were all required to read upon becoming a member. Do not be surprised or offended by the very strong anti-declaw remarks you will get at this forum. You were warned when signing up.

As white cat lover stated this thread is about Bea and her surgery. She and Bea need our vibes and support. It is not an argument and it is not a debate. This cat is proof that things can go wrong with a declaw.

Natalie, my thoughts will be with you and Bea today.
Please let us know as soon as you hear anything.

I am thinking of poor little Bea today, and I'm hoping that her surgery goes as well as it can, considering how heinous it is to begin with.

for Bea; she's beautiful

I am sure that Bea, although she may be in pain for a few days, will wake up and eventually be realieved because she will feel better.

I know you don't want to think about it, but what happens if this 2nd surgery is not successful or there are more complications? Wishing Bea a quick recovery.
