Awwwww Carol! That sucks! I am so, so, so sorry for your family's loss and the news about your Aunt.

Sometimes all you can do is be there. I think the eggnog is a lovely idea. Right now, it's the little things that count, and every day is a blessing. I know it doesn't feel that way, but it really helps to live it that way.

Oh Carol, I'm so sorry the news was this bad.
I'm praying that the treatment helps.

When my mom was diagnosed, the doctor told me to "get her affairs in order" which to me was a death sentence and I didn't think she would leave the hospital. But, she did and I had 14 months with her. It was stressful, but I wouldn't give up a second of that time, because since we didn't know what would happen we lived for the day, and made some beautiful memories that I cherish.

Just be there for your dad and your mom. Sometimes there isn't a lot you can do except support, comfort and love them. But, take care of yourself too! Remember that!

I bet your dad would love the eggnog.

I am so, so sorry to hear of all your sad news, Carol. I hope your dad does well with whatever treatment they can offer, and you have my condolences for your uncle's death.

Many unlimited vibes for your dad's treatments..

I lost my mom to a cancer that metastasized to her liver. I know how you feel right now. I'm never good at finding the words to bring comfort and won't try here. I can offer some practical knowledge on how to cope through this if and when you are ready to hear it. You must first acknowledge the elephant in your living room.

Mega
to you my friend. I'm just a phone call or PM away and I'm a good listener.

Hugs to all of you wonderful people... your kindness really truly does help me feel stronger in coping with all this. I've told my mom, too, about your thoughtful posts, even from people I don't know yet, taking time to wish us well. We appreciate you so very much.

The first chemo treatment was today, and although it was a nightmare trying to get Papa up and dressed and down to the clinic, it ultimately went very well. No nausea, no pain or burning... he tolerated the drugs beautifully. He slept for most of the three hours we were there, and when we left, he was actually moving a little better than he was on the way down. He's terribly tired now, but that's normal for him.

The other good thing: he hadn't talked much about Uncle Bobby's death, but he liked the nurse who gave him his treatment, and he started talking to her. He said, "I had the greatest love for Bobby. I'm so sorry he's gone." And then he cried a little, and I think that made him feel better, somehow.

I want to share a picture of my father, taken in Hawaii in 1944, when he was flying Piper L-4s as an Army forward observer. I think this will probably be the front cover photo of his book, "Above The Thunder," which is being published later this year by Kent State University Press in Ohio.

Oh, I wish he could feel like this again!

I'm so sorry to hear the diagnosis. The husband of a friend of mine was just diagnosed with the same thing. But the doctors aren't sure where the cancer metastasized from. From her, I'm learning to take each day as it comes and be thankful for the time you do have.

It is really good that he tolerated his treatment.

I'm sorry Carol, first about your uncle's passing, and the pain your feeling
knowing what your dad is facing! Be strong, as you can, and don't let them get to carry away with those chemos, that to me may do him more harm than
good! I wish you and yours so many thoughts and prayers!!!!

carol, I am very saddened for you. I love the photo of your papa, he looks like the type of person who lives life well.

You are doing all you can and it sounds like his doctor is compassionate and understands your papa well.

I will be keeping you all in my thoughts.

Kluchetta, thanks for asking! His book begins with the strafing that woke him in his barracks on the morning of the Pearl Harbor attack, and goes on through to the end of World War II. It's a wonderful book -- one man's amazing personal adventures as a pilot, told in the context of perhaps the most pivotal moment in military history, and written with warmth and humor and my father's in-born grace as a writer.

I've always known it was a great book, but of course I'm his little girl... so it was thrilling for us all when the two professional historians who reviewed the book (to advise the university on whether to publish it) just couldn't say enough good things about it. They called it one of the most fascinating war memoirs they'd ever read, talked about the humanity and intelligence of the author, his great gift as a writer... unabashed praise all around.

Can you tell I'm kinda proud of my papa?

Carol, I just have to say it...your dad was a hunk!

How wonderful to have his history written!! It would be a rare and special thing to have something like that even if it was just for your own family, but to have something published is especially remarkable. You have every right to be proud of him!!

So very sorry to heat this, chemo and radiation worked for me. I had non-hodgkins lymphoma in 2005 and by early 2006 it was gone hopefully never to return again but that is in God's hands. Hope your Dad will do well with the on going chemo.

Carol, I would LOVE to read that book when it is published. You have every reason to be proud of your papa! He must have seen and done some amazing things. And to have his stories published by a university is great! Heck, I'm proud of him, and I don't even know him!

I'm so glad to hear his first treatment went well. And that he got some of his feelings out about your uncle. I know that had to have been hard on him, and it's better to get it out...and sometimes it's easier to talk to someone that is a third party.

Your father, and your family are in my prayers.
